I decided to pull the pin on ordering a high end (16 GB RAM, 1 Tb storage) 24 inch iMac rather than waiting for a 2nd Gen 27-32 inch iMac for two reasons.
First, years ago I had a 27 inch iMac that I rarely used because I actually found the screen to large to really enjoy. Now granted, I rarely used it with multiple apps side-by-side. But even if I had been doing so, visually scanning from one end of the screen to the other was annoying. Maybe I was sitting too close to the screen? Who knows? I just know it wasn't the fun experience I had expected it to be. (Plus that sucker was HEAVY, so heavy that it might just as well have been bolted in place--not a problem with current models, even the Intel ones.)
Second and more important, I figure an M1X or M2 iMac at 27-32 inch size will have a price tag upwards of $3K and that's more than I really want to pay for an all-in-one desktop. I'd rather get the smaller size now and have the extra $1K to spend on a more powerful model (or on a new 16 inch MBP to eventually replace my 2019 model) in a few years when the Apple Silicon lineup has matured.
As always, YMMV. And, disclaimer: at the moment I'm no longer using my Macs for power user purposes, although I certainly hope that will change at some future time.
