Wondering if Satechi, Hagibis and Co will use the Mac Mini as stand and provide "on top" solutions for docks due to the fan/cooling solution.

well unless the build a hollow ring stand of sorts with just the ports and stuff on the outside rim - I doubt people will want to add something to the sides of the mini and the back is used by all the connectors.

So, other than the top, I could see them maybe doing a attachment that connects to one of the USB-C ports of the front panel, maybe even with a front facing secondary power button.

I think my holy grail accessory would be an under desk mount, with some kind of intake filter to try and help keep dust out. Bonus would be some kind of physical lever that will activate the power switch, unless it is easy enough to use it mounted anyway.

It’s hard for me to visualize my future Mac mini setup, so maybe I am overthinking things.

Very interested in whatever Satechi will propose to replace their current « Stand and Hub » with NVMe. Right now I’m stuck with putting the new Mac mini on top of this hub, because I use it as a plex server, with a 4TB NVMe SSD. If no option comes, I guess I’ll have to use some external SSDs…

Maybe a dumb question. I currently have a little Anker 575 dock hooked up to a monitor, speakers, Logitech receiver etc. the USB C out charges my MacBook up to 85watts. Would I be able to plug this into the new Mac mini to use as a strictly as a hub (for old usb A ports and lower speed devices).

I’m concerned about the 85 watt charging output on that port. I assume it wouldn’t output any power but I don’t want to risk damaging the Mac mini?

Why couldn't you just lift/tilt the mini slightly if placed above a dock? That's what you'd have to do with it sitting on a desk. Or do docks typically use a hard/fixed connection that'd prevent that?

With the button placement on the bottom I want to see some VESA mounts for the back of TV’s that effectively turn any screen into an iMac by utilizing this new tiny Mac Mini. If you can secure the Mac mini in such a way that the power button is on the bottom corner facing out to the back then it’d be a very similar experience to an iMac, albeit much thicker. Plus then the fan would have better airflow than if it were up against the TV’s back panel.

I'd be interested in such an add on "New Mac Mini's Top power button", if it was a finished product with a more robust material.

I would like an enclosure/hub that has...
1) room for SATA backup drive
2) room for NvME drive
3) SD card reader
4) maybe a couple of "A type" ports for backward compatibility\
Perhaps 3 separate modules so if you don't want a SATA drive you just don't buy that module?
5"x5"x2" and one could make a Mac mini tower?

Just sit it on its side. No cooling problems, access to power button. Cable routing not much of a problem. Access to front ports may be a little issue if you plug in and unplug accessories a lot.
I would be alright with a little dock the size of the new Mac mini to sit beside it, maybe with built in storage, card reader and a couple of USB A ports.

Would the thermal management work as effectively if the mini stood on its side?

I could also see some kind of stand/dust filter sandwich - dust filter under the base of the mini, cut-out for the power button, empty space, hub/dock that sits underneath on a desk.
