Dear friends,

The Mac Mini was last updated on August 7th, 2008. It's the only Macintosh computer without a Penryn CPU and Wireless N.
Should it die or should it get updated/upgraded?

--Sigh.....

Update! Though I'd rather see a bigger Mac mini with a 3.5" drive or the same form-factor with an external SATA port.

it is either gonna get a serious update
or its gonna get killed off

i personally think they need the mini to get people into the door

I hope to see an update! It would be awesome if they made a slightly larger version with dual hard drive slots and a dual dvi dedicated graphics card
One year is pretty long though.

hope update soon

A bit of wishful thinking there i think :) When i ditched my HP vista laptop in january this year and jumped over to a mac the mini really appealed to me as i wanted to try out OS X without going all out and buying a more expensive machine. I looked long and hard at the mini but i couldn't help feeling after playing on the imacs in the store that it would be better all round for me to get one of those instead, so in the end i did. Im glad i did as my old monitor actually turned out to be on its way out after nearly 2 years of non use. I still admit though i really like the form of the mini and i think its a great second computer or a first time pc users venture into OS X.

I do hope it gets updated though as it was the mini that actually got me to switch. I went to the store to pick one up and if i hadn't of been blown away with the imac then i would have one of those lil white boxes on my desk

Apple had better had something really good to replace the mini with. I believe that they will replace it, or update it with, i beleive that there will be a new design since that it hasn't been updated for a long time. Apple also are liking slim and small at the moment (macbook air, ipods etc) So they could possibly make the mac mini smaller, to make it the "worlds smallest computer" because all other companies are catching the current Mac Mini.

Where's BlueTooth? And what kind of graphics?

Current Mac mini owners must be pleased that their machines still haven't been made "obsolete" by newer models :p

LOL, and the ones still using Core Solo machines are probably more than pleased that they are only 1 rev. away from the current offerings.

A total redesign would be awesome, since it is no longer the smallest computer in production (beaten by de EEE Box, though the performance isn't really comparable) I hope apple will twice down it's size, drop the price $100 and loose the optical drive which can be later purchased as an add-on.

Thought so. What about using an Atom chip instead of the Core chip?

Atom mmm could that handle the video outputs needed ? 720p 1080i/p ?

the reason Apple TV works ok now is it's a cut down less resource hunger OS on it 10.5/6 IMO wants more CPU

so by Jan we may have

- new model Mac Min (Mac Nano)
- new models of MBP new case ala Macbook air
- new model ACD ala Macbook air /iMac case design
- new models Macbook - Alu design /Colours
- 10.6 Snow Leopard
- iPhone Nano ?

Also new iPod's - Shuffle/Nano/Classic/Touch

Imo iPod's will just get a storage bump/price ajustment, with the chance that Apple will drop the Classic for a HDD based Touch

Sept-Nov iPods updates
Novem-December - ACD / Macbook updates
Jan - whatever else Apple have up there sleeve.

Mac mini 2.0

IN: Intel T8100 2.1GHz 3MB
OUT: 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 (the one in the EEE Box; think it's dual core) - less cooling required, slight performance hit
1GB RAM
250GB 3.5" Drive - huge performance jump
nVidia 9400GS with 128MB VRAM (or similar) - 1080p video, gaming!!!
No Optical - use MBA accessory
802.11n (no draft hopefully)
BT 2.1+EDR
Same ports
Same Chassis - different layout
$499

EDIT: Oh crap! Now mac mini is much faster than macbook!
