Wait for the new one!

Newer configuration of mac mini will be out soon!
If you can wait, do wait. Mac mini is the only line that has not got core 2 duo processor yet.

notice i don't care for intel... i'm asking about PPC ones

Sorry the ppc Mini will not perform anywhere near as well as the Intel version.

Dave

have you had the PPC Mini?

in what ways is the performance not anywhere near it?

no offense really, but i'd assume safari and mail and itunes won't suffer much if at all, and Office will only be better since it's native to PPC and not on intel

Hi,
Yes I did have one of the original PPC Mini and although all the usual programs ran without problems, Photoshop was sluggish. I often work on A3 images which are usually about 50 Mb in size and certain tasks in Photoshop took longer than I would have liked.

Aperture wasn't around at that time but I would think it would have been painfully slow if it had.

The New Intel CD Mini can handle these programs with ease.

Dave :)

at ease as in no spin wheel at all and not sluggish at all?

maybe i should really checkout my own mbp for hardware problem then... because i am not 100% satisfied with it running photoshop and aperture (well, they are tolerable)

but at this point i'm looking for a machine i can buy for around 300, i don't fancy you would sell me your intel mini for 300;) ?

Actually, there should be a selection on eBay for around that amount. If not now, they will be after the holidays when we are closer to Leopard and native code Adobe CS3.

for PPC yes, for intel no... intel ones are like 500~600 ish

thinking about it, i wouldn't mind a tower with comparable clock speed

you can get really nice prices on G4 minis now ($300+ for a 1.42 Ghz, 1 GB RAM) on craigslist and ebay. If that's all the power you need, they are a nice little computer at that price!

Well, I just managed to get a G4 Mini on eBay as a machine for the folks. I wanted a machine that would do all the basics without sweating, and the mini qualifies superbly.

If I ever get the damn thing back, I'd not be without my MBP for the main stuff, but I think the mini is a wonderful thing!

ANd if you shop around you can get a bargin - I bagged a 1.42ghz G4 one, with AIrport and Bluetooth for abut £200.
