You know you all really want a Shuttle X200. It's completely full of win.

Meanwhile, Apple is delaying the update of the mini because they can. It would be incredibly simple to drop in a C2D and 802.11n - they just don't want to. Why don't they want to? I dunno. Possibly to keep the price low, possibly to keep their margins high, possibly to stop it eating the sales of other products, possibly because really, secretly, they hate us. Take your pick. I know if I had the money I'd get a mini and do these upgrades myself.

In my opinion the mini is still overpriced for what you get. Sure, it looks cute, but inside is pretty low end hardware. Apple (or Jobs - God bless him) have always favoured form over function, and their prices reflect this. Mobile components are always more expensive then their desktop counterparts, and normally half a generation or so behind in performance (simply due to power and heat requirements).

Yeah. I'm angry at Apple. I love them, but they are never going to build something that I would buy in an instant. I'm one of those "Waiting for the Cube 2" people, and I know that Apple doesn't consider us part of it's target demographic.

Mini upgrade? I'd love to see the Cube come back. It's doable - PC companies have been doing it for years. Apple just won't do it.

Ok, end of rant now. No "omg Apple hater" posts please. I make do with what Apple gave me, but it's not really what I want. I know I'm not gonna get what I want. End of story.

I miss the cube... New York has a Cube! Why can't we?

From what I can gather, Apple got burnt by the cube quite badly, it didn't sell all that well at the time. Personally, I love them and always wanted one. I still check the prices of second hand ones pretty regularly... goes off to have a look...

Right now all I want from a new Mac Mini would be an HDCP compliant DVI port. I don't give a rats arse about anything else. Of course an HDCP compliant DVI port would require an X3000 graphics chip which requires a Santa Rosa chipset which would mean a Core 2 Duo too.
While an HDCP compliant DVI would be next to useless right now, with Leopard supposedly supporing HD-DVD/Bluray playback, it would come in handy for those wanting to use a Mini with their HDTVs when the AppleTV doesn't quite cut it.

i think leopard is coming out this november/october and mac mini update is at december:apple: :apple:

the mini is Apple's scrap heap. it gives them a way to get rid of old Intel chips. all the big PC sellers do the same thing. it's the low end model.

Now that the MacBooks have been updated, and the Mini is just a headless MacBook, you think that they will keep it and update it to SR?

I would like to see that and the use of a standard MacBook power adapter...

That would be the model that "ships with Leopard". :)
