Anyone know when the new Mac OS 10.5 will be coming out? I heard end of 2006.

November 14th 2006. And if you believe that then there's a bridge I'd like to sell you. Late 2006/early 2007 is what Steve said and nobody knows any more than that.

No-one has a firm release date yet (not even Chundles). It could be late this year, possibly early next year.

There is likely to be a preview at WWDC in August, but that could be of a very early version of the OS.

If I was a betting man I'd place my money on February 2007.

yes but at what time ! :D o and i have london bridge if you want it

thanks for the replies, i was just wondering because i'm waiting for the next OS to purchase a MBP.

what's london bridge?

Will the bridge have spanning turned on by default, or will I have to use a hack? :D
Spanning will be avaliable with the next firmware update:D

Hacks will void your warranty;)

All you really need to know that it will come out before Vista.:)

My bet is that Apple will have it out prior to the release of the consumer version of Windows Vista. Apple will push it with a major advertising campaign and state that they have an OS two steps ahead of Vista.

:D :D :D

Let's hope Leopard can look as good or better than Vista (which should be easily done, far too much transparency in Vista).

Here's to the return of some kind of built-in themes in Leopard!

Off Topic For the Record:

London Bridge and Tower Bridge are two entirely different monsters. The modern London Bridge is quite unimpressive compared to Tower Bridge.

Vista is a rip off OSX. Leopard will basically be the same look at Tiger, just minor/major colour or window designs. I look forward to seeing the preview at WWDC =)

Im personally waiting till Leopard before i buy my Macbook. However, ive been thinking of getting another Powerbook, but the 1.67Ghz model

Next summer.

Tiger was released just under 11 months after the first WWDC discussing it. I expect more of the same for Leopard. That puts it around late June or early July, 2007.

Hopefully not.

If you need a computer now, buy it now. You'll most likely be able to buy Leopard for $69 or $129 (depending on whether or not your a student) when it comes out. To me personally waiting for 6-8 months to buy a computer just so I can save at most $130 is not worth it. If you don't need the computer, or don't even want it very badly right now, then sure, wait.

Far too early if you ask me. Can we expect a new OS every year for the next few years? That sounds like a lot of installing/tidying/customizing.

Who needs Leopard, Tiger is great. :p

I wonder what the answer to this is going to be... until the Intel transition, the answer seemed to be no -- that OS X would slow down. But I think that, even if (I mean even though, as I have little doubt) Leopard will be better in a number of ways than Vista, I think Vista and the appearance of something so*visibly different from XP (even if it isn't that different inside) will probably force Apple to keep working at OS updates. Maybe the Intel transition will to.

That, and I think personally that what desktop search will do to OS's is just beginning to be understood, and that Apple will either need to innovate or react to innovation from others in this arena.

AH! Your picture tricked me! When I saw that there is an attachment in this thread, I was all excited to find a zip file of screenshots of Leopard...:( :D

Please, never mention zip files and screen shots of leopard ever (especially to me) again.

back on topic, I would expect late this year, or MWSF 2007. Not later than MWSF. They want to beat Vista, and its current release date is March (?). Of course, MS is waiting to see WWDC, copy everything, and release it about a year later ;)

i think it will be out by early dec. for holiday shopping or in feburary and the date will be released at MWSF
