This hysteria happens every year. If it were up to you, you'd still be using macOS Lion.
Apple's only mistake is that they push updates too early and too aggressively.
They shouldn't push everyone to update until spring of next year, as the name macOS 26 suggests.
It's ridiculous to read about Linux—you can't use it. What kind of Linux do you want if you have to do so much yourself? Changing your wallpaper and removing unnecessary widgets from your desktop is difficult for you, and half your devices don't work out of the box.

Why would you trust an AI to do this?
There are a squillion laptops in the market place. It narrows down the search field, offers some names for further research.

I wasnt after a specific model for purchase , just some examples of similar machines.

Why wouldn’t you use AI for this?

OS 26 Tahoa is truly garbage and an affront to what Jobs and Ives built.
Tahoe is indeed truly garbage, but it's an affront to what Jobs and Forstall built, not what Ive built. Ive is the one who started this whole mess of removing all of the skeuomorphic design that Jobs and Forstall built, and replacing it with flat design. It started with iOS 7 in 2013, which fully replaced skeuomorphic design with flat design. As for macOS, Ive partially started that process in 2013 with OS X Mavericks (version 10.9) with a few of its apps, and then in 2014 fully removed all of the skeuomorphic design and replaced it with flat design in OS X Yosemite (version 10.10). macOS 26 Tahoe uses a flat design variant called glassmorphism, so although Ive is not working at Apple, he deserves the blame for getting rid of skeuomorphism and replacing it with flat design. And Cook deserves blame for being so clueless and mediocre as to fire Forstall, as well as for allowing Ive to completely purge Apple's industry-leading skeuomorphic design that had been built on over three decades of painstaking user-friendliness research by Apple.

Because that's what AI is good at. Just because someone said they used AI, suddenly makes their content/results garbage. I use AI often, and I can see what does well, and what it fails at. I think using AI to condense results sets like what your criticizing, aligns to its strengths - just my $.02

A.I. has its place as a tool and not the master. I use it often for information, but I limit it to what I generally know so I can tell if it is giving me B.S. It is VERY helpful, but I hope it just stays as "helpful"...

I agree, but I think we both know being the long term prospects, just look at MS laying off developers and relying on copilot to write code. While I do find AI useful, I'm under no delusion to see the writing on the wall where AI is going to displace many jobs, and many vocations.

It's clear that the next generation of useless engineers are completely taking over those that built the iPhone and OS X, and it's a sad day.

I have never thought I would say I would be installing garbage from Apple, but here it is. OS 26 Tahoa is truly garbage and an affront to what Jobs and Ives built.

You can see the carelessness and horrible work throughout. Non cohesive designs, BUGS EVERYWHERE, loss of caring of whats going on behind the hood, and chasing visual eye candy over function.

Its sad.

I cant even get my tabs to work correctly in safari and have to access the sidebar to access them correct (icons bugging out etc).

Apple really needs to sit down and fire half its team and spend a whole major version update just clearing the junk that has been built up and going back to building functional systems first, we have reached windows Vista level of garbage...
Every firm needs a good cleanse every now and then. Hopefully the mass layoffs are coming very soon. Humanz get very lazy and complacent slurping the branded coolaid.

I thought mods ran a tight ship around here in regard to similar threads. There have been 100 threads with people just crying about 26. Yes. We get it. Clear bubbles are the devil. Can't you just add your thoughts to one of the other threads about this topic?
They don't. They are more than happy to let dozens of duplicate threads, with no other purpose than flamebaiting, exist. But pointing that out is somehow ban worthy.

Apple has spent the last 5+ years prioritizing everything except qualification in their hiring process. The result should not come as any surprise. But it is right there for everyone to see.

It isn't all bad, but some of it is really, really bad.

That's funny. One of my first posts was about external storage in a thread where people were *sort of* already discussing it. A mod split my post off into its own thread (which died instantly because nobody saw it).

It seemed strange to me and I just assumed this board was modded pretty heavily. Oh well.

Rather boring
Boring is good. :)

I've been here since OSX 1.0. Some good, some bad, some meh. This one seems to be stilted to the negative.

I usually like to try new versions, but I've skipped updates on my M1 MBP, now that I have a M4 Max, I have an oppratunity. Do I take a chance? I don't know if its wise to go to a x.0 update, doesn't matter if its from MS, Linux or apple. Wait until the first patch - if not later.

I disagree
I use AI often, and I can see what does well, and what it fails at.
Studies show people who use AI are actually really bad at determining if it’s improving their efficiency or not

There are a few reasons I disagree:
  1. We can’t know how it’s condensing search results.
    • Is it removing a competitor of OpenAI?
    • Is it promoting someone paid by OpenAI?
    • No way to know
  2. LLMs are designed to respond with the most likely average response. That means its responses are average, not exceptional.
    • Does that mean it brings up companies that show up more in its training data?
    • Does it mean it’s harder to get a good result if you have a less common use case?
  3. Hallucination

Or with AI .. it could be $0.05 or maybe $0.12 even!
