I do have a question though. Obviously, the 8 pin larger connection, goes in the graphics card end, but and obviously two of the pins will stick out of one side because the connection on the graphics card is 6 pins. Does it matter which side they stick out?
I think the right cable for your card is:
mini 6-pin to PCIe 6-pin
Amazon link lead to a mini 6-pin to PCIe 8-pin cable.
(Maybe there happened a mistake with that Amazon link?)

Those connectors are mini 6-pin connectors (that are on the mac pro) and on the 5770 that is a regular 6-pin connector. You need a mini 6pin to 6 pin connector found here

Thank you!! Finally someone who has given me a specific answer.

And just to be clear, you're sure I only require ONE of the power ports that are in line with each other on the Mac Pro? The only reason I’m asking to clarify is because the guys I called at Micro Center seemed to think it would require both ports on the Mac Pro to power the one port on th

That makes much more sense. Every other one I’d seen so far had 8 pins. I was beginning to think that they were only made in eight pin and that it was standard that two pins stick out of the connection which is obviously absurd. I was going crazy over this. And you’re definitely sure this is the cable that will work?

I am pretty sure the cable should work. And yes, only one connector is needed

Yes, it might work. It probably does, if the two pins fit outside the connector.

It's only that the product behind your link does not correspond to what you wrote. Please check again Amazon link, it is a mini 6-pin to 8-pin cable. Why not get the mini 6-pin to 6-pin cable, which is exactly the right cable for the job?

Ooops, but the wrong product on accident. The mini 6 pin to 6 pin is surely the best option.

The six pin to six pin OBVIOUSLY was far more correct, so that's the one I ordered and did the job fine. The graphics card is updated. Lost boot screens as everything on the internet tells you to expect. Now I just need to make sure I download the right boot.efi. Is the boot loader that Tiamo uploaded for Mavericks the same one as Mountain Lion? I decided to do the Mountain Lion upgrade instead of Mavericks or Yosemite and I just want to make sure I do this 100% correctly.

ALSO,
I've found tons of resources with instructions on how to perform the actual operation but I cannot decide on which set to go with. Does anyone have a link to a tried and true set of directions for the most-likely-to-work method as far as getting this Mac Pro 1,1 to Mountain Lion?

Any help would be appreciated...

Would a EVGA 210 1024 WORK FOR MAC PRO 1.1 ? Running Yosemie 10.9 and ProaTools 10.3 ?
I have an EVGA 640 2GB and it works on my first generation Mac Pro, but I haven't been able to upgrade to Yosemite. I'm not sure about the 210 though

Hello, newbie here.
I've been reading this thread since finding it after hearing that updating my MacPro 1.1 was possible.
I love my MacPro and use it for recording music. I just updated to 10.7.5 from 10.6.8 and now my screen is flickering when on any webpage. I read here I may need to upgrade graphics card, especially if I plan to update any higher OS?
My questions are threefold:
1.) What is the highest OS I can get to on this MacPro if I do Tiamo's modifications?
2.) How are are the modifications to do? I'm a pretty detailed & savy guy, but what is the easiest way to do that now?
3.) What graphics card should I buy for the least hassle and easiest install? (I don't know how to flash a card, etc.. I'm not a programmer by any stretch-I'm a musician)

Sorry to bump this old thread I appreciate any help you all can give.
Thanks.
