I'd love to give this a go but before I do, which Mac Pro revision are you running? Thanks for this!

I'm running a 2006 Mac Pro 1,1 with the 32-bit EFI firmware.
I've got the original dual dual core Xeon processors (2.66GHz)

I'm not even sure if modifying the info.plist file is what did the trick or simply just plugging the monitor into the BOTTOM DVI port (even though everywhere else it says only the top DVI port works).

Give it a go man. If it doesn't work, you could always plug your old card in, delete ATY_Init.kext and restart (that's what I did the first time).

I did it! I lost a DVI port as expected, so that monitor is plugged into the old 7300 card. DVD and steam now work. Thanks so much!

You're welcome dude. Too bad that information was so hard to find. I literally was reading forum after forum and finally found good instructions. It seems like so many people just assume we know what "just add your device ID to the driver" means.

I'm glad I could share my findings with you because I know how much it sucks not having steam.

Glad it worked for you.

A few months ago I wanted to prep my 1,1 for FCPX Motion, et. al. and knew I needed to get an OpenCL card like the ATI 5770.

So I did the research, and took the risk. Oh, and I decided to go all the way to a 5870, in for a penny...

So I made sure I was up to spec on Lion, and popped it in. Seamless. Yes, I know it really wants PCIe 2, so the card is fairly bored, but I'd rather the card not be the bottleneck. And it sure isn't... it eats children...

So if you are curious, yes, as long as you have Snow Leopard or above (EFI firmware provided by that is needed for these cards), the ATI 5770 and 5870 will drop right in.

Has anyone had issues with 10.7.3? After updating Steam and DVD player no longer work. The ATY Init kext is still there. I can't find anything on the web about this. Thanks!
