Hi, I'm new to the forum and I'm writing because I have a problem.

For passion I bought a Mac Pro 1.1 on ebay at 50 euros knowing that it probably wouldn't work. Clean and assembled everything (the power cord is missing and I used one of an old windows pc) I turned on the mac and obviously it didn't turn on. A white light flashes above the power button. I noticed only after actually missing Hard Disk and then the operating system. I was wondering if actually buying a hard disk (which one is compatible?) And installing the operating system (how do I do it, what version?) Actually this problem can be solved.

I consider it a vintage object that I would like to bring back to life if possible

Thank you all for your help!

just grab a SATA drvie, you can get a small SSD for cheep.
Thanks a lot for the answer. Can you tell me or indicate a guide on how to install the operating system in a new hdd without having the cd? The monitor input is DVI right?

Can you tell me something about the problem of the flashing light?

flashing light is a ram problem. Pull upper ram board, Pull lower ram board until flashing stops. Then pull Rams, so you ll find the bad one

macpro 1.1 last suported os i think is osx10.7 so
good place to start

do you get display when you turn on the computer?
i think your meant to see a gray screen with a '?' or something

do you know what GPU you have?

this is the service manual have fun

Hi, I have a problem with my Mac Pro 1.1

The Mac is without HDD, I don't know if this can affect it.
I leave attached two videos made by me to show you what happens.
1) When I turn on the Mac Pro normally the white LED flashes but everything else is off.
2) When I turn on the Mac Pro without a power adapter connected, after always holding down the power button, I connect the power supply and check for a red light above the RAM that doesn't turn off even if I turn off the Mac.

I invite you to see the attached videos to understand better, what can I do?

Thanks for the reply!
I tried to remove both the ram and in any case the red light stays on as shown in video two. is it a ram problem anyway?
What frequency do you recommend ram to buy?

looks like almost all rams dims are dead.

remove all

insert one at a time, check red light on the ram risers. If lit this ram is dead, repeat with all sticks, one at a time

Hi, thanks a lot for the answers. Unfortunately I don't think it's a ram problem. I disconnected both the ram and started the mac in recovery mood and this light remains on (as you can see from the attached images). The lights on are above the words "CPUA and CPUB), so it's a CPU problem? I think my Mac is dead! Do you have any advice?
