And I still do not understand it. What is the difference between Xeon and core i -family?
I do understand the marketing differences, because of marketing differences ;) But is there some profound difference, like in memory modules (DIMM vs. ECC DIMM). Or is it just so that production line failure xeons are to be i(x) core products?

You do know there the Linux OS got it's original name do you? It's not from this guy.
