If System Profiler identifies it as 5770, it's already flashed with Apple firmware.
Yes, it does.
If your card has 2 DVI + HDMI + DP it's flashed PC one.
You can't have the bootscreen otherwise than via VGA adapter on such card.
Good to know.

It works since 10.6.8, just without bootscreen. It will work that same in Mavericks.
Yeah, I know that. I have this config running over a year now ;-)
I started with asking about a bootloader solution, so the bootloader initializes my card so I can switch OSes without the VGA adapter.

Thanks for your clarification.

1. following those steps to make an install drive
http://www.tips-and-tricks-in-mavericks.com/how-to-create-an-os-x-mavericks-install-drive/

2. replace boot.efi
boot.efi can be found at System/Library/CoreServices/boot.efi and usr/standalone/i386/boot.efi

3.insert your board-id into OSInstall.mpkg(please google it)

4.insert your board-id into InstallableMachine.plist(please google it)

5.reboot from the usb drive.

this is a native efi32 bootloader, instead of a CSM loader
it built a thunk between EFI64 and EFI32, forwarding EFI64 call from kernel to EFI32 firmware.
so those programs using EFI runtime services, such as bless, nvram will be run without any problem.

this is a full version bootloader, hibernation, filevault2 are also supported out of box.

it is built with visual studio 2013 and nasm

thx this works like charm i used this method on a iMac 6,1 everything works except the sound and the graphics card (still boots verbose) if someone can point me in the right direction? if it don't work whit tis graphics card what will be the best replacement the iMac can have ? i have copied the kext of ml geforce 7xxx to the right folder and the graphics still shows a 9mb of ram the sound i not have tried to copy those kext here are some screenshots :

Latest 10.9.2 Seed does not work!

The first 10.9.2 seeds worked great. The one published today (13C39) does not.

It does replace boot.efi and InstallableMachines.plist with the original versions, but even with these restored, the system hangs and looks for another partition to boot from.

I reinstalled 10.9.1 and all is fine...

Anybody Try 10.9.2?.

Works for me perfectly. boot.efi had the same modification date as in previous seed (13C32). It isn't modified - compared both in HexEdit. But I guess, that my updating procedure was a bit different than yours:
– updated to 13C39 on 5,1
– replaced boot.efi with Tiamo's one
– put drive into 2,1

I'll try the 10.9.2 upgrade this evening directly from a 1,1.

Will be incredibly disappointed in Apple if they're so petty as to close off Tiamo's route.

I installed 10.9.2 13C39 last night on my MP 1,1 -> 2,1.

It refused to boot and defaulted to my other boot drive with 10.7.5 on it.

I reinstalled Tiamo's boot.efi and all is now fine again, as it continues to be, some eight plus hours later.

Running a flashed 5870 as display into two dvi-d monitors.

Can you, please, explain what exactly you did after installing the 10.9.2 update? Did you simply reboot or did you try replacing boot.efi (in the two relevant folders) before rebooting? Maybe you don't have the option to reach the Finder to effect the replacement itself, so the inability to reboot would simply mean the boot.efi that 10.9.2 installs is the 64-bit, original version, not Taimo's 32-bit version masquerading as 64 bits. If so, the inability to boot would be entirely normal. Naturally, the solution would be to boot using another OS (for instance, Snow Leopard), change boot.efi and reboot into Mavericks.

I Hope Tiamo makes a new patch for 10.9.2 and for future Mac OSX Releases.

I upgraded to 10.9.1 on my Mac Pro 1.1 for Security Reasons, So i don't mind staying on 10.9.1 and not upgrading for a couple of months. It Beats not upgrading past Lion 10.7.5.

I don't think a new version of boot.efi is required at all, since Tiamo's existing one continues to do the trick. The only thing that is required, I suppose, is a foolproof method to ensure that boot.efi isn't overwritten or that, if it is, Tiamo's version is copied on top once again.

For the time being, maybe we could resort to updating ONLY through delta update installers and, whenever necessary, replace the new boot.efi they may contain (using, for instance, Pacifist).

a couple of ways to get around this, one is to update the OS and after it reboots and hangs, shutdown the machine, place HDD in USB case and plug into newer Mac already running 10.9.X and replace boot.EFI in both location, place back into Mac 1,1 or 1,2 and boot up or have an external boot drive ready and boot from that and perform the boot.EFI from that.

Just like the Hackintosh system, don't update a system that you are not prepared to do the work. Best practice is to wait on the update and read the forums and see what others experience is before hand

Clueless

Hi, I am completely clueless as to how I am supposed to do the whole thing except for the mavricks usb. If possible can somebody post a reply with more clear and easier instructions for a beginner? Thanks

Hello! Sorry for the delay. The 10.9.2 update process involves a partial update, a reboot, and then the update installation continuing. It was at the reboot stage of the update process that I noticed that the MP had rebooted to the incorrect OS on the alternate disk. Subsequent attempts using the Startup Disk control panel to specify the Mavericks 10.9.2 disk as the boot disk failed - I consequently used the 10.7.5 disk in the machine to boot and login, and further replace the boot.efi in the noted locations with Tiamo's - I rebooted once again specifying the 10.9.2 disk as the boot disk. 10.9.2 booted successfully and the installation was completed successfully.

I hope/trust that answers what you have asked.

I ended up letting the update succeed on another machine that supported 10.9, and then restoring boot.efi and InstallableMachines.plist, which were replaced by the update. However, I was not able to boot into that configuration after restoring it to the Mac Pro 2,1. I reinstalled 10.9.1, fixed it and am running ok.

help

I don't know how to insert my board id into OSInstall.mpkg or InstallableMachine.plist

bootefi working for macbook pro 1.1

Thanks to tiamo for the wonderful boot.efi. It worked with the SFOTT disc creator perfect for my mac pro 1.1. I tried it with may macbook air 1.1 but it did not work. I could´t launch the Instllation Tool. ( Can launch it on the mac pro even if the board ID is set for the macbook air.) As anyone any Idea, or is it not possible with the macbook air? I thought i heard it works with mountain lion an the MLPostFactor, but that would not work with Mavericks.

thank you

Got Mavericks working on Mac Pro 2,1 (1,1) with radeon 5770.

Thank you for the simple workaround, worked flawlessly for me.

Everything I've tried so far works fine, I've noticed things like bluetooth working better than in lion.

I even had to ring up apple to activate iMessage and told them my mac model/serial number, didn't even question that I was on an unsupported device.

I have lost major respect for apple though as this is just evidence of Apple unnecessarily forcing consumers to upgrade!

For a couple years now, I've run the Chameleon bootloader approach to get first ML and now Mavericks up and running. To upgrade to Tiamo's bootloader I booted into 10.7.5 on another disk, swapped the existing boot.efi for Tiamo's (in both places), shutdown, removed the Chameleon helper disk, and rebooted into 10.9.

I haven't yet found anything that doesn't work as well as it does on qualified, supported hardware.

Sincerest thanks to Tiamo!

A long hard stare at Apple… Go away and think about what you've done! :)

I have no clue how to use sfott, Can somebody please give me instructions what to do with sfott

Do I have to put mavericks on the usb stick first? By that I mean follow the directions on Tiamos post on how to make the bootable mavericks usb.
