No, you'd need to replace the two boot.efi files again (/usr/i386/standalone and /System/Library/CoreServices) before attempting to boot after the update.

Thanks for the feedback. I tried to install using the LEM method with the edited OSInstall.mpkg, and I got "unable to load packages" in the 10.8 installer.

I'm gonna try again, but start from the beginning with the tiamo instructions.

It took a while, but I finally got my MP1,1 running Yosemite:
2x Dual Xeon 2.0Ghz
8x 512MB RAM
Radeon X1900 (shows as 8MB RAM, but I knew that would be the case.)

I need to find a decent guide on turning off all the eye candy, since I can't afford a newer video card. Any suggestions?

Also, does anyone have or can provide a link to a pre-hacked installer for mavericks, like the Yosemite one?

Hey everyone. This post has been great for troubleshooting and generally learning the roadblocks that needed overcoming in order to upgrade my 1,1 Mac Pro, from 10.5 to Mavericks.

At this stage I have built a bootable USB drive that I can kick start the OS install. The issue for me is that once the restart happens, it just boots straight back into Lion.

I have looked through the logs, and they don't say much of use:

I had this issue as well. The thing that worked for me was, open Terminal and type: sudo bless (drag the drive from the finder to the Terminal window to insert the path of the drive here)

Then press enter and try setting your startup disk to the Mavericks drive

Hold down Option/Alt upon reboot. Select the Mavericks startup disk. Once you boot into Mavericks, go to System Preferences > Startup Disk and select your mavericks disk to start

Alternatively you can also install rEFInd (i suggest doing it from the Lion install, as it has the proper 32-bit kernel for the efi file)

When I had the problem, using option or selecting the drive in the Startup Disk control panel didn't work. He still may have to bless the drive like I did.

For whom it concerns...

I finally managed to get Mac OS X 10.9 / Mavericks installed on my Mac Pro 2,1 using the SFOTT script / key generator but it wasn't w/o some initial problems so I hope my experience can help others facing the same problem I did.

I initially used the SFOTT_install_Yosemite_beta.dmg v1.4.4 version of the SFOTT script / key generator as I presumed it would also work for Mountain Lion and Mavericks (at least that's what it supposed to do...). The first part of the process (generating the key USB stick/HDD <= tried both but got to the same result) went w/o any problems. However, when I tried to boot with the resulting USB stick/HDD key it was never recognized as a bootable device (<= not while holding the Option key during boot nor with the Startup Disk Preferences). Launching the installer on the USB stick/HDD key from within Lion (in a desperate attempt at 3am...) was (of course) also unsuccessful.

However, after 10's of unsuccessful attempts, I decided to give the (normal/non beta) SFOTT_install.dmg v1.4.4 version of the SFOTT script / key generator a try and guess what, the resulting USB stick/HDD did boot nicely and Mac OS X 10.9 / Mavericks installed just fine on my Mac Pro 2,1!

I encountered quite a lot of post of people on different forums on this topic facing the same problem but I never did find a solution or reason why some ended up with a bootable key and others with a non bootable. I hope this info helps (at least some) of those.

A little bit off topic then: using the SFOTT_install_Yosemite_beta.dmg v1.4.4 version of the SFOTT script / key generator for Yosemite DID result in a bootable key, but during the boot process I always ran into a Kernal Panic of some sorts (I'll try to post a screen shot later on). As I'm not really interested to run Yosemite (don't like the new look at all!) and I only seek to be able to use a recent graphics card (on a Windows 7 64bit boot camp partition) I'm more than happy with Mavericks.
By the way, getting a 64bit version of Windows 7 installed on the Mac Pro 2,1 is also not w/o any problems, but these sites help out:

Ok so i used target disk to install mavericks on my 1,1 mac pro and i don't know where to get the boot.efi can i use the same one from my el capitan drive or is there a deferent one i need to dl I'm setting this up so i don't have to use target disk mode after every update

once you install the hacked efi download the single updates from apple's site if you install the combo update on the app store it will break the hack and you will need to re patch it. example 10.9.1 to 10.9.2 or 10.9.2 to 10.9.3 ect

The boot.efi from your El Capitan should work. However I would preferably use the TiamoMacProFix script to make sure each update can be installed directly from the App Store. The script makes sure the correct boot.efi is in place during boot (in other words your El Capitan boot.efi file should end up overwritten at some point).

I have attached both the "Mavericks 1,1 boot.efi" and the script if you need them. Make sure you restart twice after installing the script and you're good to go. Every subsequent Mavericks update will go smooth...

The boot.efi from your El Capitan should work.
It works, you can boot installation and system after that, but it gave me crashes whenever i tried to install something (updates, apps, drivers...). So i would rather use original Tiamo's boot.efi instead of current Pike's Yose/Cap boot.efi.

Or maybe it was just mine 1,1...

I'm have a problem,
El Captain stop booting after the last update.

Normally and with other updates I just replace the boot.efi in /usr/i386/standalone and /System/Library/CoreServices
and ever think back to normal, but this time the system not boot.
any help?
thanks
[doublepost=1463770377][/doublepost]I replace the boot.efi in the recovery partition and it's work again.

Do any of you have SFOTT working on a 2007 white Macbook? I have SFOTT Mavs 10.9 working but the audio and video are sketchy so I was wondering if there was an update to fix these issues?

Any of you have 10.10 working on 2007 white Macbook?

Update, i was using teamviewer to have a look at it from my house. It was doing it before we was using teamviewer.

Hello,

I am trying to get el capitan working i have followed this guide. here and it boots and everything

Then you can use it and it kernal panic. I have attached the kernal panic text here

my 1,1 was fine for about 6 months. Suddenly last night it wouldn't start in Mavs. I can't get to start from the USB stick I built either. When I hold option on start, I see the installed Mavs drive as well as the recovery and the USB Mavs, but I can't start on any.
Ideas?

Thanks Tiamo, you did excellent work!
Following your guide i've installed Mavericks without problems... but....

Anyone can explain me why "Finder" crash continuously? I have to reopen it any time.
Generally the system is stable, when "finder" is re opened it works for few operation (directory navigation) and then, crash (only freeze finder windows with graphical problems) again.

Thank you very much.

there is a homebrew bootloader for OS X 10.9

1. following those steps to make an install drive
http://www.tips-and-tricks-in-mavericks.com/how-to-create-an-os-x-mavericks-install-drive/

2. replace boot.efi
boot.efi can be found at System/Library/CoreServices/boot.efi and usr/standalone/i386/boot.efi

3.insert your board-id into OSInstall.mpkg(please google it)

4.insert your board-id into InstallableMachine.plist(please google it)

5.reboot from the usb drive.

===================
this is a native efi32 bootloader, instead of a CSM loader
it built a thunk between EFI64 and EFI32, forwarding EFI64 call from kernel to EFI32 firmware.
so those programs using EFI runtime services, such as bless, nvram will be run without any problem.

this is a full version bootloader, hibernation, filevault2 are also supported out of box.
===================
source code: http://code.google.com/p/macosxbootloader/
it is built with visual studio 2013 and nasm
Hi Tim I am unable to download efi booter file from the link

Hi new here i have a Mac Pro 2.1 OSX Lion 10.7.5 and i just bought a MSI Geforce GT 710 https://www.msi.com/Graphics-card/GT-710-1GD3H-LP.html

When i tried it alone in my Mac it stuck on boot nothing happend
So i tried to use my original existing card a Radeon X1900 and have the other card installed without being connected to a monitor
But same thing happend it stuck on boot
Is it any change i can get it to work with that card?
I've read many times that almost any PC card work on mac apparently this has a problem or did i do something wrong?
My Mac also got only 6 GB memory maybe i need to upgrade it to be able to use a newer OSX?

I’m not sure without looking into it more, but it can be that Lion is missing the graphics drivers required for GT 710. You might need to upgrade to a newer version of OS X and/or download Nvidias so called Web Driver.

Thanks for the answer yeah there was no mac driver for any GT card atleast not what i found when i switch to "quadro" i found Mac drivers excuse a stupid question but what is the Nvidia Web driver?
Also the the problem is i cant upgrade to a newer OSX as i have a Mac Pro 2.1 thats why i bought this card.
