Got good frame rates on Destiny 2 at 1080 and tweaked medium's settings with a 580X and bootcamp.

But I guess you're inquiring about gaming inside MacOS and of course 6k.

On the side, a Radeon 6700 Xt doesn't fit.

My single X5690 5,1 has a RX580 and runs Zwift at 4K - usually between 30-60fps depending on how many riders are online and where in the world I am (Makuri islands is heavy on the computers).

I should imagine a 7,1 will do much easier. Hopefully find out when my new one is delivered.

I have my 7,1 in the signature running Windows 10 for Workstations and also installed Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.

I was shocked that with 4K resolution and the DX12 beta mode selected and Ultra detail (with some settings even higher) I could get 30-35fps in London Heathrow airport.

At Dubai 40fps. With everything looking stunning. The planes sometimes look like photographs of the real thing.

Zwift is bad on the 7,1 MP in Mac or Windows. There is no profile for the Radeon W6800X so you don’t get high detail. But it runs at 250fps in some places, even Makuri Islands does 90-100fps. That’s a simple settings thing Zwift should fix.

I have both AMD 6900XT reference and Nvidia RTX3090 Founders Edition and noticed that I can definitely see the difference in Boot Camp, where RTX3090 seems to be slightly more performant which was a noticeable frame rate difference to me.

This is a bit of Flight Simulator running on my MP2019 with Win11 Pro for Workstations:

That's with 4K resolution, the FlyByWireSim Airbus A320 NEO addon (free) or the JustFlight BAe-146. I can crank the detail all the way up. It's very impressive that it can run with everything set to the max.

It should also be remembered that FS2020 is a far different simulator to the legacy Flight Simulator X which was developed around the time when Intel and AMD were working out if things would go higher clock speeds or multi-cores for CPU. Microsoft guessed higher clock speeds AFAIK and that didn't work out. FSX never really supported multi cores properly. I don't know if Lockheed's version of FSX (or Microsoft ESP) was improved.

I sometimes wonder what it would be like with the W6800X Duo. 🤣 My wallet isn't so interested though.

It uses about 11gb of my 32gb VRAM. Processor runs at 10%. GPU near 100% in flight.

My Mac Pro has W6800X and Flight simulator 20 barely reaches 30fps in 4k resolution. I still get similar frame rates when running in 2k or full hd resolution. I don't understand... :(

What else is running in the background?

I get more than those frame rates even in VR mode.

You won’t get an answer though, you’ll get told to sell your Mac Pro for nothing and buy a PC around here.

In VR, I have 10fps, and after a few minutes the program freezes. There is no significant software running in the background.
My hardware: 12mag xenon, 32gb ram, W6800x

I wonder if a Duo would help? The 6900 wouldnt give you too much more. Maybe 3-4more fps.

My experience is similar. Even with a 6800XT, just cannot get it to play at a reasonable rate on my Mac Pro without bringing the settings way way down. Don't know if it's the Xeon or the ECC ram or what. I keep a separate gaming PC pretty much just so I can run that game smoothly.

the old af xeon might be a bottleneck if the game is cpu-intensive compared to others

Shouldn't need it - my W6800X MPX runs fine and with 32GB VRAM is a benefit versus some other GPUs which ran out of memory on some of the pre-release versions of Flight Sim. But I also have a fairly clean install of Windows 11 Pro for Workstations and fast NVME storage. I even run it on the 5K LG Ultrafine without problems.

There is a VR helper application that I uninstalled because it gave me crashes. Sometimes it's necessary to just kill off the FS2020 install and start a fresh one, occasionally with addons and updates it just gets scrambled. It's a huge complicated application. I would say uhlarlaszlo should jump on the official flightsim forums and seek assistance, they are quite helpful and not scared by the words "Mac Pro".

If the "old as ----" Xeon is a bottleneck, then why does my 16 core Xeon Mac Pro with same GPU have no dramas? Even in VR with HP reverb G2 I get 40fps+ and very steady frame rates. That's with the PMDG 737-700 and the FBW A320

I wonder why it works well for you. Something is wrong with my system, I just don't know what. Maybe Windows 11? I'm using Windows 10. Maybe I have a problem with the AMD software? Which AMD driver are you using? Did you fine tune the AMD settings in the software?

No fine tuning, nothing special, I left everything at the defaults. I did just get the most recent Bootcamp provided AMD drivers, before that I had the standard ones provided by Apple. If I run in normal windowed mode (not VR mode) then I get very steady 60fps on the 4K screen and maybe only slightly less on the LG 5K screen (5120x2880).

Maybe the only other thing - I'm using Windows 11 Pro for Workstations.

I haven't been back in Flight Sim for a while as real world events are taking up my time.
