Hi, new to having a Mac and just come across this thread.

I have a Mac Pro 1,1 running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63) and have just taken delivery of a ATi HD5770 1GB PCI-E X16 Dual DVI, HDMI Graphics Card.

Mac reports it as a 5700 family card and it appears to be run it but I keep getting freezes/crashing.

Not sure what is causing it yet but its def the card which works fine in a PC. It hasn't been flashed, but Ive read that shouldnt be needed, but the current power cable isn't plugged into the MB, instead it comes from the HD 4 pin power lead you plug into older HDD's, sorry not sure what they are called!

The Mac says the software is all upto date and I dont get the boot screen which Im not too concerned about.

Do I need to flash this card?? Its currently running in a PC so I could flash it in their I guess and is the power cable OK/right?? My initial impression is that I need to get the ati mac pro power cable and plug it into the MB??

Thanks for any help.

You are underpowering the card. If it is not using appropriate power cables you will destroy the Mac pro.

You will need to get the correct cables else you will eventually kill your graphics card and/or your mac pro too.

The cables are easily found on ebay and are cheaper than a new mac pro.

Example listing here. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Pcs-of-...566?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cd4367576

OK thanks guys, thought that was the case. Ill locate one and buy one PDQ and before I refit it!

Thanks again.

New lead arrived today so 5770 back in Mac after spending 2 weeks in a PC working perfectly fine.

I'm assuming I can use either of the 2 connectors on the MB? Ive used the top one at the moment.

See how we go and Ill report back.

PS, is there any benefit in leaving my Apple Radeon X1900 in there aswell? Ive currently removed it as I'm only currently running just the one display.

Thanks again!

^^^^Either Power Plug is fine. There are two there because many Video cards require two six pin power cables, yours requires only one, so, as I said use either one.

As far as the X1900XT goes, that card was, and still is, a piece of crap. Throw it as far away from your machine as you can.

OK, its been in 24 hours and still unstable, even tried it in slot 2! Any ideas guys would be appreciated! The crappy X1900 is back in now :(

Thanks

OK, now Im really confused!!! I have now put the 5770 in slot 1 and the X1900 in Slot 3. Im using the 5770 as my primary display and just have a monitor connected to the X1900 and so far its behaving???

Any ideas?? Doesn't seem to be a power issue as it wouldn't run like this so must be something else right??

Thanks in advance.
