Hello looking for some help, hopefully i picked the right thread, i see some familiar experts here, so maybe i can get a solution. im helping someone flash a 2009 cMP 4,1, bootrom MP41.0081.B07 Quad core 2.66 single processor on El capitan. So heres what we've done: First S.I.P is disabled, mounted macpro efi upgrade 1-5 on to desktop, then engaged the firmware tool. Then we got the prompts to flash firmware to 2010. all proceeded, seemed to work. restarted mac held the power button until it blinked rapidly and then the loud tone rang out, but cd tray didnt eject. The progress bar did initilize and the cMP rebooted, upon checking the system specs, the bootrom didnt change. I then suggested an Pram reset, and it wouldnt take, it never chimed. we then tried the whole upgrade again and nothing was happening after pressing on firmware tool. @h9826790 @Macschrauber if you can please add your expertise we would be extremely grateful. On a side not ive flashed my 4,1 cmp back in novemeber and it went down smoother than a fine wine, so im not sure what the problem is. Thank you

1) I assume that's with the original / flashed graphic card.

2) I assume that's with the original / known good native SATA II connected HDD/SSD.

3) I assume you used wired keyboard, connect it directly to one of the native USB 2.0 port to perform that NVRAM reset. If not, most likely that's why NVRAM reset doesn't work.

Before you do anything. If you haven't backup you existing firmware yet. Do it now, and make at least two indepedent backup.

The next thing to try I suggest is go back to Yosemite. So that no need to worry about SIP. And Yosemite is known good OS which can run that firmware flashing tool.

Anyway, for this kind of 4,1 to 5,1 firmware upgrade. You better contact Tsialex, and let him assist you to do it "more properly".

thank you for the response...yes original gt 120, good sata II hdd, wired keyboard, unfortunately its a pc keyboard to the usb port, this cMP was just aquired with zero important info on it, and forget about backing up existing firmware, thats not happening, if it bricks then it just bricks, it cost him nothing and this is just a project/ hobby( he has one more as well so it wont be a huge loss) as far as yosemite, initially he was tryng to do a osx recovery and it was prompting him to login to apple account and that wasnt successful, it didnt have any macos on it, i sent him el cap on a usb and it instantly installed with no issues. i guess i will reach out to @tsialex. thank you for your suggestions, i appreciate the advise
