Hello Everyone,

I recently did the Pixlas Mod and I'm upgrading from an RX 580 to a Radeon VII. When I try and boot up my mac pro 5,1 it doesn't give me any video signal out.

I was referencing this video for installation:

Does anyone have any troubleshooting suggestions? I'm on Mojave 10.14.6. I returned my first Radeon VII and received a new Radeon VII but it still doesn't post on Mojave 10.14.6, Catalina, or when I'm on Windows 10. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

make sure pixlas mod is right!
whether the plugs on the wires are correctly inserted
and measure whether the voltage and ground is also present at each connector

if you still have your RX580 try if it works on both 8-pin connectors

Thank you for the advice. I'll try that. My RX580 works just fine.

Would it be a power issue even if the Radeon VII turns on and by that I mean the LED's are on and the fans are operational.

RX 580 needs just one 8-pin, while the VII needs two. Did you checked that the RX-580 works with the two 8-pin connectors? Maybe you made an error somewhere.

Another thing you can do is to check via ScreenSharing if macOS is recognising the GPU.

I'll double check both 8 pins as soon as I'm done with this render out of Premiere Pro. I think I'll have to get a voltmeter to confirm it. Really trying to get this working to upgrade my workstation.

I haven't tried screensharing. I'll be sure to do that. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hello Everyone,

So it was indeed one of the 8 pins from the Pixlas mod that was giving me issues. I had to reseat one of the connectors and then it worked. I'm now booted into windows. Now I have to see about booting into Mojave or Catalina instead of High Sierra seeing as this card isn't supported on High Sierra. Thank you for all the help!

Anyone have a solution for booting into Mojave or Catalina and avoiding High Sierra? I've been using bootcamp to switch from mac to windows but it doesn't detect the ssd boots I have for Mojave or Catalina. I thought Bootrunner would work but that didn't work on the Radeon VII. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Use the OpenCore boot menu. This is the thread about OpenCore with MP5,1:

I managed to install the Bootcamp 6.1 drivers so now I can read and boot into Mojave and Catalina. Any tips on enabling hardware acceleration? My renders in premiere pro are still taking two hours even with the Radeon VII and metal rendering. I tried following this guide
to get it working but the efi folder was empty when i mounted and checked the partition.

It’s doesn’t matter if the EFI folder is empty. You can even create the EFI folder if it’s not there.

I have the dual x version of the sapphire amd radeon 7950 card. My Mac Pro recognizes it as amd Radeon 7950. However when I connect the DIsplayPort out to my iogear gcs1934m mst kvmp switch it only mirrors displays. Mac Pro (running Mojave) Display settings show only one monitor and do not show the arrangement tab. when I connect to the switch two different dvi and hdmi monitors either to the dp out (DP to hdmi cable or directly to hdmi out with a hdmi/DVI adapter on the of the switch, it only detects the model # of one of the monitors and mirrors on the other.
I really would like to use this kvm switch, anyone have any ideas as to what’s going on?

A used RX 480 8GB blower fan type GPU . Rebuild it with a fresh coating of Arctic MX4 .

Each one will give you three DP at 4K 60 Hz and one HDMI at 30 Hz . Requires only one 6 pin PCIe booster power cable . You can install two of them easily , if you have the slot space .

It's only 10 percent slower than a RX 580 , but it will not exceed the double wide space available in PCIe Slot 1 of the cMP . The official Sapphire RX 580 unfortunately exceeds the space available in that slot , so that card might press against an adjacent card .

Blower fan type GPUs will help cool the cMP , compared to open air fan type alternatives .

RX 480 Looks like this :

I’d love to use 2 of these, but have NO idea how rebuild them as you mentioned…
