Unzip attached file and try to flash this rom to your card, needs Windows, DOS or EFI environment. Also possible to flash with hardware-programmer (e.g. CH341).

Possible difficulty: the size exceeds 256KB, smaller flash memories can't hold the complete code, so flashing will refuse. I've found some EVGA-roms for similar cards over the 256KB boundary, there is a good chance that yours has also a 512KB chip.

Attention: Pascal-cards are only supported up to macOS High Sierra with installed nVidia WebDrivers!

Hi Borowski,
Many thanks to you and bravo for being so reactive.
I can't wait to try it tomorrow.
I've already prepared the harness I'm going to solder into the power supply. I hope it will be long enough.
Thanks again.

New to the forums here. I've gots me a STRIX GTX 1080 (NON Ti) and have been searching in vain for a ROM that will allow EFI and Boot Screen. The guys from MVC-EU, for some reason, will sell video complete flashed cards to Switzerland, but he doesn't offer the mail-in flash service here. *Shrug*

Any of you have any idea where to find a copy?

It's going into my native MP 5,1 Dual CPU machine with 10.13.x installed.

Card is this beast: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/185903/asus-gtx1080-8192-160630
BIOS Version is 86.04.17.00.E3

I tried the ROM that Borowski provided Siem1 for his FTW edition but it bonks with a mis-match. Soo close. Attached is my original ROM copy.

I know I'm reviving this thread from almost a year ago but any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Try to flash this one.
Appreciate the ultra quick response...

Tried it, unfortunately it says Invalid firmware image detected. Attached screenclip.

Does the rom size matter? I tried flashing earlier with one that was 251K, dunno which version (didn't allow boot or efi anyway, but it CAN flash the card) and this one was 265K. I did flash it back to my original one first but still.

Please attach a dump of the card - your attached "my-biosGP104" does not match to your card (i used this for doing the mod).

Tried, Dunno. New and old numbers match but still bonks. Could the eeprom be too small? I read somewhere in the tubes that some have a 250k 256k and others like the Ti maybe have a 256k 512k eeprom.

If this is too much trouble, take a break. You have gone above and beyond on this stranger that has created an account here for this long shot. I really do appreciate it but if it's s lost cause, *shrug*

EDIT:

Mine: 250K VBIOS - https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/185903/asus-gtx1080-8192-160630
Siem1: 250K VBIOS - https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/183923/evga-gtx1080-8192-160525
Ti Variant: 256k VBIOS - https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/191595/evga-gtx1080ti-11264-170406

The pulled ROM from mine is 251K. Wonder if anything bigger bonks if everything else looks good. looked at Ti ROMs and they are all (that I've seen) are 257K.

Problem seems broken signatures after mods, nVidia is really awful at this point. 🤮

Since the UBU-tool will still update GOP by simple copy-paste-action with Pascal-based roms, i guess the missing NPDE-entry may affect the check (i'm doing mods manually).
Please try the next one.....

If also not programmable, next idea may be using a SPI-programmer like CH341.

Ok Borowski, you did it! Wow man. I'm blown away. Thank you SO much. works damn fine!

Couple questions. Not to look any gift horses, more a curiosity.

1 - Is there any way to make the grey apple screen black with grew/white logo/status?
2 - Any way to make the Link Speed report at 5 GT/s instead of 2.5? Looks like it's only a reporting thing as OpenCL OceanWave shows 4.92GB/s so I'm presuming these numbers are the same scale.

It does show that this card is Metal capable in the system report and in GLView so later I'll just try installing on a scrap drive. I'm not ready to jump yet as I've too much software that I don't if will work after taking the leap. I have switching OS's just to run a couple pieces of software then jump back to my normal stuff. Not expecting it to.

System Report: Metal: Supported, feature set macOS GPUFamily1 v3

Thank you thank you thank you. Hopefully someone will google in the future with the came card and enjoy the satisfaction of this as well.

You da man brah! @'

Edit, some blah blah

1. Don't know if NVRAM entries may change the bootscreen to black/white, it is possible with a bootrom-mod (permanent, will remain after NVRAM resets).
2. To my knowledge it is only cosmetic issue and all non-Apple nVidias are affected. Only MVC found a solution to show correct linkspeed, but i dont know how to do that.

Will the script fix the shown linkspeed shown in system profiler?

The card runs without any mods with 5GB/s, it is only wrongly reported.

Thanks startergo. I'm not sure how this portion of the Mac OS functions and am hesitant to run stuff like this in the terminal. Would be nice if this was just made into a stand alone app that could be run just by clicking it or run at startup. I love macs but there's a technical limit to things I feel comfortable with fiddling with sudo and terminal commands that I'm not easily familiar with undoing/uninstalling.

This particular script no, if I remember correctly he had something to fix the speed, but on cMP3,1 @joevt can you elaborate please?

Does GPU-Z show the correct link speed? I think it might be 2.5 GT/s while not doing 3D stuff. Then you click the Question Mark in GPU-Z to open a window that does 3D stuff which makes GPU-Z show a new link speed of 5 GT/s?

Perhaps macOS is doing the same thing - but it doesn't update the link speed in the IORegistry?
