I'm not sure I understand the reasons for trying to attempt this? APFS is going to be far better for you than HFS+..

If APFS is work as expected. That's good, however, it is not.

1) Finder unable to correctly calculate and report empty space.
2) Slow boot when TRIM activated
3) Finder micro freeze
4) Bootcamp apps in Windows unable to selected APFS as next boot partition
5) Few APFS related KP (seems fixed in the later High Sierra)
6) No RAID / Fusion support
7) Causing About This Mac -> Storage very slow on getting the space analysis.

If HFS+ is garbage, then APFS is far worst than garbage at this moment. And it's amazing that this garbage HFS+ works reliably on my Mac in the last 10 years without issue. But the fantastic APFS not even work as expect for 1 day. All the above happened on my own Mac. I tried APFS for 3 months, multiple OS update, still not completely fixed.

"h98267900" is of course ALOT more experience in this game than I am...

Think points 1-7 is a pretty comprehensive description of what is wrong with APFS (at least some of it) when experimenting on a MAC PRO.

I got an iMac 2013 to and that machine runs HS with APTS and so far nothing wrong. But this machine isn't used for the same tasks and this is after all a "MAC PRO FORUM"

I'll take all of that over HFS+ silently corrupting all my data. APFS will improve over time; High Sierra is a buggy release sure, but hopefully they crack it with 10.14.

Fusion disks were supported in the Developer releases / Public Beta, but was withdrawn from GM. Hopefully they add this back quickly.

Spinning disks never supported it (as far as I'm aware), but it'd be great to convert them to use it too.

You go do that then but don't force it down on everybody else just because you have a different opinion...

APFS is in a hell of a buggy state right now and have a lot of problems like described earlier.

I don't have any statistics but my guess is that ALOT of people have been "happy" with HFS/HFS+ in a lot of years.

If what you are referring to about "corrupting all my data" was such a huge problem in generel for all MAC users I think we would have seen a lot more fuss and complains over the last 25-30 years...

You made a choice and so did we!

We respect yours try to do the same...
