I am STILL trying to get my hands on an RX 580 pulse
I'm actually the guy you mentioned who ordered one with an expected delivery date somewhere in December. I was recently informed that this has now moved up to the end of September. I'll believe it when I see it.

No, I ordered from it from conrad.nl, I live in the Netherlands. I had been tempted to use Amazon, but I was able to get arrange a discount on my first purchase (business account) with Conrad so it worked out to be the cheapest option at the time.

Just found a UK store that is selling the pulse rx580 (in stock), BUT its £140 more than my amazon pre-order.
Sooooo tempted, but hate being fleeced by inflated prices
On a listing on the US amazon, it mentions stock in on sept 23, so don't know if this a mass shipment of cards from sapphire to resellers!

Here in the Netherlands, at least on my order that I've been waiting months for, is supposed to ship to me that week. So it certainly sounds like it to me.
Ok Amazon is p...ing me off now (even though its the miners' fault), just the lack of any kind of date.
Just looked and the one I pre-ordered has dropped to £102 (which is what I will pay).
Checked back 10 mins later and the listing now says 'this item is unavailable'.
I may order the more expensive one, and leave my amazon one running....see if turns up.

Ok new question/problem?
Something in the back of my mind made me check the fans on my gpu (mac seemed a lot quieter).
The fans are not spinning at all, is this normal or should they spin 100% of time.
Everything is running ok.
I have it in slot 1.

I've got a mid 2010 5.1, but I've also got a Macbook Pro 15' 2017 ... so I'd attach a GPU box with via its Thunderbolt 3 port. They cost the same as just buying a single card of the same spec. Such as a 1070 etc.

Jumping in with a question. I have a Mac Pro 2009, flashed to 5.1. I've added a Sapphire RX 580 4GB. It won't display 4K 60p through HDMI. Is this a limitation with Mac OS?
Correct, that's macOS issue. The same config can run at 4K 60Hz in Windows without any issue.

have you tried under windows @acana79 if you havn't may also be an outdated HDMI cable (less than 2.0)
Cable works fine with Windows for showing 4K60p. I haven't tried the RX 580 but Sapphires website states it should be good for true 4K60p.
it should be yes. havn't tried but then you don't have much choices, you should use DP, shouldn't you?
I already use my two DP's for connecting my monitors. It is very strange that Apple still hasn't updated its drivers to handle 4K60p. They're like 4 years behind now.
Because there is absolute zero Mac has HDMI 2.0 port shipped from Apple yet. We are the only group that has this port exist on my Mac via self upgrade. Therefore, they don't need to provide such software support.
