Hello every, I have a Mac pro 5.1 from 2012 its a 12 core. My question is I purchased a backup 12 core cpu tray on ebay. I slid the tray in & push power button and it seems to be dead the fan doesn't go on after a few tries i got a click sound nothing else. Im thinking its one of two things. The thermal paste on the cpu's are dry or the cpu circuit board tray is burnt or bad. So I put my original cpu tray in and mac boots right up. ebay seller is giving me a hard time he doesn't want to give me a refund. If anyone has experience with CPU traies feel free to respond. Thank you

If you don't here the dong sound when startup, it maybe that the computer is shutting down so there won't be any damage. Check to make sure your cpu heatsink with thermal paste and ram is seated correctly. If the rom has been upgraded using dosdude shortcut and was interupted during the upgrade, then that board is done. For me the best thermal paste is the original Arctic Silver 5 and when applied correctly (pea size), the machine will last years.
