I was having a weird wake from sleep issue in the middle of the night. For me, it turned out to be a Bluetooth setting that allowed bluetooth devices to wake my machine up. Maybe a bluetooth device is doing it for you guys? (The only bluetooth device I had paired was the aluminum keyboard.)

I HAD an elgato eyetv device on my OLD G4. And I DID port the identity to the new intel Mac Pro. But I have never hooked up the eyetv to the new machine. I found ONE preference file related to it, which I have removed. We'll see at 8pm tonight.

I've got NO bluetooth devices at all and bluetooth is turned off entirely.

New install of Leopard does NOT have the problem, so we are definitely talking about some installed software issue or setting.

Elgato might be culprit!

I deleted the elgato preference file and the machine has not spontantously started for 2 days.

I'm going to put the file back into the prefs folder and see if it starts again. Looks promising.

So I am not alone...

I thought I was sleep walking at first the first couple of mornings when I awoke to a fully booted Mac Pro! I rarely shut my Mac down, but when I know I will not be home for an extended period or the entire day due to work, I shut her down.

I failed to check the time last night or this morning, when my startup bong and the airplane engine fans decided to rob me of a good ten minutes of blissful slumber before finally falling back asleep!

I was surprised to find this issue to already be in existence to be honest.

Everyone here has theories, and the only thing I have changed that makes me suspect it, is my new Verizon iPhone 4... Previous to me owning it, I believe my Mac did not do this, but I can't be sure.

Do the rest of you have iPhones? I certainly haven't used the USB TV adapter... And I use the Bluetooth keyboard my Mac Pro came with and Magic Mouse...

Just posting first time ever after being a Mac user turned from the dark side since Columbus Day weekend 2007. Been reading the forums for ever, though :)

You do realize you posted in a 2.5 year old thread, right?

I sure do realize it... I figured reviving the old thread is better forum etiquette than starting a new topic without searching... Think anyone has solved this issue yet?

Has everyone checked the "Wake for Network Access" option in Energy Prefs?
If so, turn it off.

Like others on this old thread, I have had this automatic power up with my MacPro, running snowleopard. I believe I have set prefs everywhere I can think of so that it wouldn't wake up. but its waking up from Shut Down ! not just from Sleep.

very weird, and a potential safety issue. I'll keep surfing for a solution

Energy Saver has a Schedule option. The default on my MBP looks like the screenshot here. The Mac Pro may be a bit different but not much. It's probably checked.

D'oh !!!

I didn't try the Schedule button until you suggested it. That was the problem ! There was a checked box to start up the computer at a certain time.

I unchecked it. so the problem should be solved. Can't believe I missed this - thought I had tried everything .

thanks!!!!
