Yeah...I just looked at the invoice for when I built my PC two years ago...it's DD2 RAM running at 533 MHz, not the 667 MHz that comes with the Mac Pro...so I'm going to have to config it with 2.0 gigs of ram...no biggie.

I wonder how big of a performance hit I'm going to take by going from 2.66 to the 2.0 GHz system.

The 7800 should be enough for me, although it's an older card...I'm not gaming, but even if I was, it can handle most of the games today. And I don't plan on ever being able to afford TWO 30" displays... Right now I'm sticking with some old 17" CRTs...

Thanks for the help though!

I'm kinda dissapointed with the graphics choices; WHO would want quad (or one) 7300's? it's their (nvidia's) budget line; for christ's sake! It doesn't belong in a luxury computer!

Luxury computer?? It's a work computer. And not everybody works with pretty graphics and video games. That graphics card is more than enough for audio production, Xcode, Dreamweaver, FileMaker Pro, etc, etc, etc...

Actually, now that I think about it, my Plextor 16x burner is of the parallel interface, which I almost 100% the new Mac Pro does not have. I'm sure it's running off the serial bus as well.

Where the heck are we going to find those RAM modules...I don't see them on Newegg or ZipZoomFLy. I'm putting 2 or 3 750GB SATA drives in mine...:D .

Where are you buying the 750GB HD's from? I am sure you will see the ram for sale in a week or so.

It should work fine, the optical drives are using the parallel interface (got this from the Mac Pro technical documents).

Interestingly the Mac Pro has two unused Serial ATA connections somewhere on the motherboard. These might be in the optical bay area in case you need to use a SATA Optical Drive; Blu-Ray / HD-DVD?

I splurged on my Mac Pro purchase and it priced out to $20,701. Of course, I bought two 30" LCDs to keep my Quadro busy. ;) I didn't bother to buy any Apple software, however.
