mac pro early 2008 - fan noise on start up & constant "whirring" sound

I'm gonna bump with a relevant comment!
I've got a 2008 Mac Pro which also makes a weird engine like noise. It's faint, but a bit annoying if paying attention. I've pinpointed it to the rear/exhaust fan. Stopping the blades while running eliminated the whirring noise completely. The rest of the mac is just a low consistent hum.
I'm thinking of swapping out the fan for a new one.
