Some sense at last. But will it end this completely irrational and persistent will Apple discontinue the Mac Pro speculation, probably not.

If they are going to use the E5-16xx CPUs in the single CPU machines, then that might be the problem. The 16xx family does not appear in any articles or geekbench results, which leads me to believe that there is a delay (another one) on Intel's part.
Tim Cook said something interesting during the D10 interview. When he was asked about Apple's relationship with content providers for TV, he noted that Apple had a long relationship with them--because they've all been Apple customers for a long time. He cited specifically that most movies are edited on Macs.
That is an important and valuable fact about the Macintosh, and one that carries substantial value. If the Pro were killed, he wouldn't be able to say that within just a couple of years.

Intel needs to change it's name to Delaytel. You really have to wonder what the heck is going on there. I'm getting fed up with Intel and Apple.
Why are you angry with Apple? Chill out or you'll give yourself high blood pressure, which leads to complications later on in life.
There doesn't seem to be any rational basis to what you are saying.
Dell have just, in the last couple of days, released the new Precision workstations with estimated delivery 19th July. If Apple announce anytime before then they could ship before Dell.
I mean why would Intel or Apple want to delay these? It's hardly profitable to not sell things to customers is it?
Technically, Dell has not "released" the new Precision - they've "announced" them. And the "estimated" ship date means it's subject to change. Apple doesn't tend to "announce" much until it's set in stone. And then often the announcement is for something shipping the next day or the next week. Though of course there are exceptions - MountOther manufacturers are happy to announce products that don't yet exist.
In this case Dell picks up some publicity, and some pre-orders. And Apple does what Apple has always done.
But - if the Dells aren't being shipped for nearly 2 months (estimated) or longer - then, really, nothing has changed. No body has the CPUs yet.
I'm not really following the CPU story directly, so my comments are merely based on what I've been reading in this thread and the 1 or 2
other MacPro-is-dead, is-not, is-so, is-not-you-(*&&^, this-thread-has-been-closed.....I don't see Apple dumping Mac Pro's for at least ONE (This coming one), or TWO (And yet another) revisions/releases
There are WAAAAAAAY TOO MANY professional facilities and third parties developing and dependent on the PCIe architecture - and while they are developing the swap to TB/LP, it's gonna be a minute before it goes full force.
These current PCIe cards for professional proprietary environments run up into thousands of dollars if not rolling into the 10's.... at least a few I know of and am involved with.
Can't see em bricking everyone on that before another revision or two.

I don't think Cook would have mentioned content being edited on Macs if he didn't think that the trend would continue going forward.
IE Mac Pros will not be discontinues.
Has any company actually shipped any or at least a signicant quantity of machines that will comparable to the next Mac Pro? Not that I have read.
There is a lot of demand for new Mac Pros, probably more than HP and Dell combined for comparable machines.
I think Apple wants to have sufficient stock before they announce Mac Pros, bc people weren't happy about the 3-6 week wait when the 2010 Mac Pros were released.
I've been waiting for a Mac Pro announcement for a while now, but at this rate I'm considering just building a workstation. Hopefully there will be some legitimate news soon, but considering I'm not as tied to the OSX ecosystem as I used to be, then it still is probably much more cost effective to build.
HP is shipping Sandy Bridge-E workstations (Z series). They are in stock at dozens of online retailers.
Like I said, I'm not following the great CPU debate directly. If HP has the same CPUs that will potentially be going into a revised MP, then fine. All I know is that some people whose opinions I respect keep saying that Apple is waiting on Intel.
My post above was quibbling over the difference between "released" and "announced". In this respect, it is clear that Dell does not yet have the CPUs (or at least not in the volume they require) to "release" anything yet. Either HP is using a different chip, or they scooped the first batch, or they need far fewer chips.
It's also possible that they didn't make any changes to their systems, so the testing to certify the system was minimal.
I am confident that Apple will be releasing something that will fit into the MacPro spot later this summer. Either a slightly revised or completely rethought system. But something.
But don't ask me to bet any money on it. There's 'confident' and then there's 'stupid confident'

Retailers don't indicate volume available. There has obviously been something of a supply issue if HP, Lenovo and Dell waited so long - nearly 3 months. Add in Apple being on Apple's time-scale and that they like to have boxed units available in retail stores at the time of announcement - unlike the others - and nothing is out of the ordinary. Apple's lack of talking about their products is annoying, but the hullabaloo that we've seen on this forum over the Mac pros is so silly and mostly ignorant to the past 6 years of the Apple/Intel partnership.
