on my nMP the USB ports all of a sudden started to behave erratically and a few weeks later the whole I/O board died...
Unstable power on all Mac Pro ports could have something to do with the issue. I did notice that the power light on my mouse which is connected to the USB port goes out every once in a while for a very short time. Whenever that happens the cursor remains in the same position on the screen until the mouse is supplied with power again. That happens despite running OS X 10.9 which completely avoids all GPU issues (I didn't have a crash in months).
The USB power issue is affected by the USB extension chord. If the mouse is connected to the USB 2 hub of the Cinema 30 display the mouse stops working for 2-3 seconds before coming back. The video portion is not lost. The same holds true for a USB 3 hub without external power supply.
If the mouse is connected directly to the Mac Pro via a USB 2 extension chord then the light goes out for less than a second and almost comes back immediately. If I use no extension chord and connect the mouse directly to the Mac Pro the light stays on at all times.
I also have issues with external 2.5 USB drive enclosures. SSD drives which use less power do work with USB 3, USB 2 and FireWire (with adapter) enclosures. Regular 2.5 drives do not work reliably with the same USB 3 enclosure but do work fine with the USB 2 and FireWire enclosures.
These USB power issues could be related to the fact that I have six 30 inch monitors connected which all draw USB power via the dual link adapter. Either way the USB ports in the Mac Pro seem to be underpowered.
To use the Mac Pro without any issues I run OS X 10.9, have the mouse connected directly via the shortest possibly USB 2 extension chord, use a wireless keyboard and track pad and use hard drives in USB 2 or FireWire enclosures for backups.

Very nice, congratulations. How can I deny a request from the legendary thread starter?
The first picture illustrates how useful the Mac Pro is for certain setups despite its shortcomings. The seconds picture shows how two curved shower curtain rods from Home Depot make an excellent 'monitor mounting solution'. Obviously the weight of the monitors is on the tables. An old backside of a 23 inch Cinema Display functions as a platform for the MacPro to hide all the cables. I love the design of the old Apple monitors just as much as I love the design of the 2013 Mac Pro.

I don't know if it's the 5 monitors that impresses me or the fact that the desk isn't full of clutter like mine.
Back to the topic at hand... I've been waiting 3 days for Apple support to respond to my latest update. Are they all out looking for Hatchimals?
it really can't just be drivers/software/OS, as I've had 6 months of no issues after they replaced the cables on El Capitan.
Thanks, good to know.I just had total system freeze in 10.12.2...end of story for me and Sierra.
Thanks, good to know.
So, have you used an external HD?
This way eliminates the possibility that the SSD which is installed on the GPU has anything to do with the issues...
And also confirms, that the freezes are absolutely, completely, utterly non-reproducible...
You have any idea what is it related to?
Few moments before the freeze I notices graphics gitching on VMWare library GUI, the same 8.5.3 version which works perfectly on 10.11.6 for hours and days.....so...it shure wasn't about AirPort.
Hm...

Do you think that sierra install may have broken something in 10.11 installation?(El Capitan 10.11.6)
