My QC D300 machine is rock solid in 10.15.1 right now. No colored screen artifacts, no lockups, no restarts since I installed the update. Uptime of over two weeks! It's sad that I'm so excited about basic functionality.

14 day update, basically since installing 10.15.1 - I updated VMware fusion and yesterday and had my first crash today, maybe coincidence maybe not - standard two minutes of DumpGPURestart - crash - reboot

I gave up on 10.15.2 and reverted back to 10.15.1 which seems ok so far (touch wood ?). With 10.15.2 dev betas 1,2,3 I was getting "Window server failed to check in" which resulted in the UI freezing and audio continuing - eventually it'd reboot itself. I tried SMC and PRAM resets to no avail.

yet another update for me - updating VMware fusion on 10.15.1 caused the gpu crash within 6 hours after downgrading rock solid again

Still getting this every 1-2 days on 10.15.1. I'll try the next public beta of 10.15.2 once they're done eating...

I *think* I had that before I had both GPUs replaced. This last one seems to have started with Catalina. Probably trying to get everyone to buy new hardware ?

mine have been the com.apple.DumpGPURestart every time, some people it's always WindowServer related and I have never had one of these

welp that took 3 days but this time I had it hard crash while actually using the machine, which is the first time for me - guess amphetamine didn't help after all - nothing particularly special going on.

on a related note, has anybody actually tried running the trashcan on 1 GPU? does that even work?

this is exactly what I got this time while actually working on the machine - unfortunately I think I might have to bite the bullet and get a loaded up Mac mini alas

In the Nexus.
Ok updated number whatever - no changes or updates to anything and had the DumpGPU again at 5am - something I had not thought of since since isn't a laptop, but I am giving this a shot

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/amphetamine/id937984704?mt=12

despite having all the power savings stuff disable there are still "idle" counters going on - and I have never had an issue while using the machine - cross fingers :(

My solution is the following: I open a terminal and type the command caffeinate. This prevents my Mac Pro from sleeping.

Just saw today similar crash happening on a friend's mbp (2015 i think) with R9 m370x (tho it's cape verde, aka radeon 7770)
On 10.12 crash looked like restart of windowserver with windowserver crash log appearing (crash due to some failed opengl call)

Rage leads to clarity:

Those of you who may see this after many many years of suffering – I am going to very cautiously suggest a solution for those of you on Catalina – after re-reading many posts….

on Monday I had the famous windoserver while actually using the machine - I actually put in an order for a new Mac mini and ram in disgust but decided to re-read this thread here and there

I believe that the root cause at least in Catalina is “reduce transparency” - I had forgotten I had recently turned this back off (unchecked) while testing I noticed when this is disabled (unchecked) I see apps using both GPUs for in activity monitor - and probably tied to windowserver) - as soon as I checked this off again – my machine has been stable for 5 days

I also left amphetamine running to prevent the OS "Idle" timer (or caffeinate that some use) but I disabled the fans running full blast 24/7 back to auto

I will laugh the laugh of lunatic if this ends up being the solution - knock on wood – hopefully this solves issues for some on this long suffering thread.

What I have noticed with macOS Catalina is that my Mac Pro 2013 3.5 6-Core is running overall better with no graphic issues, including reduction in heat that use to come out of the top - use to 'COOK' (pun) marshmallows over it :) . The fans do not go on (barely) and generally it is smoother...

but...

What I have noticed is that the processing and rendering in FCPX is slower...meaning that it looks like they might have reduced the CPU power of the Mac Pro 2013 in Mac OS Catalina (throttling) to compensate ...

I also noticed this with my MacBook Pro 2018 i9 32GB RAM 1TD SSD.....($4,000+)with macOS Catalina...

Now..for a general computer (Mac Pro 2013) to do general work it is ok (NOT FOR THE PRICE I PAID)...BUT...for heavy processing...it is possible that apple crippled it some...

I am not sure what is better...faster processing with heat and fans on ...or...pitch quite system...reduced heat...BUT slower rendering times..

Since I work in FCPX a lot with my Mac Pro 2013, I might have to go back to macOS Mojave (or High Sierra) and see if rendering and processing time increases.

Maybe apple did this (good and bad)...but I suspect that they might have did this to get people to upgrade to the new Mac Pro 2019. I cannot afford to upgrade (bought Mac Pro 2013 in 2015 & bought the MacBook Pro 2018 a year ago), and I do like the smaller form and design since it meets my needs...

Anyone notice the slow down in rendering with macOS Catalina or is it just me...?

welp, lasted a few days this time:

panic(cpu 2 caller 0xffffff7f81cecad5): userspace watchdog timeout: no successful checkins from com.apple.WindowServer in 140 seconds
service: com.apple.logd, total successful checkins since load (247410 seconds ago): 24742, last successful checkin: 0 seconds ago
service: com.apple.WindowServer, total successful checkins since load (247380 seconds ago): 24724, last successful checkin: 140 seconds ago

I don't know how I managed to achieve that 14 day uptime before bit I might be done - will probably load windows or somesuch on this machine and make my trust 2015 retina my desktop again *sigh*

I’m sure this will curse me - two changes - upgraded to 15.2 and moved all USB to external thunderbolt dock - rock solid for a week..... also upgraded to a higher resolution monitor - no issues so far

almost 9 days - this time while I was using - absolute nonesense enraging

After upgrading my Mac Pro 5,1 to Catalina 10.15.2 I have been having same issue with frozen system with the only option to move cursor on the desktop.

My freeze situation was activated, for example, when I opened App Store and some video inside were played. No every kind of video were wrong because I could play VLC mp4 videos without problems. Other trigger to freeze were IMDb movies trailer videos. Not in YouTube.

After many trials and errors I have gotten my solution:

Being frozen I unplugged the DVI cable from the computer, after some seconds I plugged in again. Catalina started up by itself. Something was installed because the process delayed longer than normal and I have no issue now.

Sorry I am just an user I can not explain better but it is working now.

Has anyone had reoccurring kernel panics (and subsequent failure to boot into OS outside of safe mode) with 2013 MP w/ D500 upon bootup? The logs appear to show it is GPU related.
