My 7.1 arrived and Apple assures me that the XDR is only 4 to 5 weeks away ;)
Migration went with no issues. BTW - the interim LG 4K UHD monitor looks like crap compared to the iMac Late 2015 Retinal Display that the Mac Pro 7.1 is replacing. Have high hopes for the XDR.

I hope in the next few years, Apple sells a more affordable Mac Pro and 5K screen for the rest of us.

Apple's price trajectory is higher for hardware in general. Inflation, tariffs, cost of new American workers and plants, etc. all put pressure on costs and Apple doesn't seem to desire to cut back on their 'tax' (i.e. profit margin). Apple seems to want to sell you more costly merchandise - not less costly. I'm sure they would have to readjust if the US economy slams into a severe recession (i.e. the deficit and interest rates smack the country in the face). So ~ I don't personally see Apple giving you a scaled down Mac Pro at a lower cost.

Wow what a thriller! I hope it works out for you soon!!

reminds me in a bad way of my story back in 2013 when PayPal canceled my payment because shipment happened 8 weeks after ordering- I saw it coming And tried to warn people at Apple, trying to change the payment method but they wouldn’t believe me that it would happen- then finally when the payment got canceled they still claimed it would work out and magically reactivate eventually. I spoke with about, I swear, 30 people at Apple trying to resolve this but only fell on deaf ears- when finally the day of shipment came, of course payment got declined and they canceled the whole order after I was waiting and seeing this coming for about two months already... I made soo much noise eventually, got up the food chain to some woman who was super nice and smart and actually the first one who would really listen.. she ordered a new one immediately and finally let me pay by credit card.
Then that machine got stuck in a snow storm in the US so it got further delayed....
In the end she gave me a 400$ refund for my trouble...
This time everything worked out perfectly though, it even came weeks ahead of schedule!
