Whatever SSD you get will improve the system performance enormously. In my 3,1 Mac Pro I have a 256GB Crucial M4 in an IcyBox adapter http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Icy-Box-I...ase_Accessories_Tool_Kits&hash=item5412ffee7d

In my wife's Mac Pro she has a 960GB Crucial M500 in an Apricom Velocity Solo X2 PCIe card like this http://www.expansys.com/apricorn-velocity-solo-x2-ssd-sata-iii-6gb-2-5-235130/

Benchmarking the M500 is it 2-3x faster but in actual use my system feels just as responsive as hers & boot times & application start up is really fast. The 960GB M500 was amazingly cheap from Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Crucial-CT9...8&qid=1415035741&sr=8-4&keywords=crucial+m500
