So disappointing. With the price tag twice that of a top Windows machine, and the M2 Ultra chip failing to come close to top PC options, they need to cut that price in half. NVidia still crushes anything the Metal chips are able to accomplish. I live in 3D effects all day, and never use my Mac for anything other than waiting.
Agree. I don’t understand the Mac Pro with Apple Silicon in the current iteration. I was thinking they would do more on the GPU side of things. And the price has become crazy. I remember buying Mac Pro machines for work in 2010 and they were not nearly as expensive even if taking inflation into account.

Apple today updated its website to indicate that the Mac Pro now ships with a USB-C to USB-C charging cable in the box, instead of a USB-C to Lightning cable, and we have learned that the high-end desktop computer now comes with the new USB-C versions of the Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard accessories in the box as well.

Tim Cook: always on the cutting edge of innovation.
[/sarcasm]

Seriously though, the fact that it took Cook this long to do that is just another indication of how clueless and useless he is.

The Mac Pro is not integral to any pro workflow anymore (largely due to not having a unique chip or discrete graphics) I think the title goes to the Studio now. It’s a product in search of users

You are right. OMG. I hadn't looked/priced either of these in a couple years or so. I have no use case, I use cloud compute if need be. The Studio is an absolute banger!! And no discrete graphics blew my mind. Unreal. Thanks.

The Mac Studio and Mac Pro lingering out there are as much evidence as I need to know I’m right that these are occasional upgrades because they’ve ceded those markets to PC manufacturers.

Quite embarrassing to be selling an M2 Mac Pro beside M4 MacBooks... but I guess that's nothing new, the 2019 Mac Pro was also an embarrassment once M1/M2 appeared.

Not really - it's just a number, you guys put way too much focus on the name of the processors.

The M2 Ultra is far more powerful than the M4 Pro and M4 Max will be - it'll still have nearly twice as many CPU and GPU cores as the M4 Max and be specified with much more RAM.

The M3 was a first gen 3nm processor which apparently was both difficult to work with and had low yields so Apple skipped over it's modest boost when considering making the Ultra version - the 2nd generation 3nm process is more refined which will finally lead them to bolting two together again.

The M2 Ultra will remain the most powerful CPU and GPU in Apple's line up until the M4 Ultra exists some time next year.

Always with a mouse and keyboard. Lateran we got to choose between a mouse or a trackpad. I think you can order the MP with both nowadays.
Yeah I just assumed it didn’t because the Mac Studio doesn’t

I guess they figured they’d throw in 300-ish dollars worth of accessories when you’re paying 8000 dollars for your machine but when you only spend 2000 they’re like “bring your own, cheapskate”

LOL.

Yeah, it's quite ridiculous to ask 179 for a bloody kb, and 129 for a trackpad.

I'm in Europe, and won't be paying € 229 for a kb when my last wired one dies. It'll be the first time to use an off-brand with my Mac.

I wouldn’t have but that Touch ID is so handy 😭

I got the tenkeyless one which is slightly cheaper but oof, paying beyond 100 euros for a membrane keyboard just feels wrong to me

Fully agree.

Well, except for TouchID: a keyboard without it simply has my credentials already filled in on a website, so I just hit enter, and I'm logged in.

It’s not so much autofill on websites cause I don’t even use Safari anymore but not having to type my password any time an app needs elevated privileges spoiled me something fierce

I would use the Apple Watch double tap thing instead but Apple has artifically limited what it can and can’t authorize making it useless

Yeah, outside of browsers I can see the value.

What? Huh! That sucks. Any reason why they did this? On paper it seemed like a good design.

If I wanted to be malicious I would say they did it to push you to buy a Magic Keyboard

But giving them the benefit of the doubt I assume it’s because the Apple Watch is technically marginally less secure

I have no idea however why they decided it’s OK to fill in your password which will potentially give a crook access to everything you own including your Apple ID but it’s not ok to let a hypothetically attacker install an app on your Mac 🤷‍♂️

Excellent point!
