Well, my ten year old wants a PS3, and I want the "General Purpose Powerhouse Workstation"

But let me check to be sure, can I edit video and photographs on a PS3? ;)

Hehehehehe :p

The PS3 may be the best next-gen console (In my opinion, anyway)
But let me tell you,
Mac Pro > PS3 by a MILE

4GB of RAM vs 512MB ? Pwnz0rz
3.0 Dual Core Woodcrest x2 vs 3.2GHz Cell Processor ? (Actaully, not sure about that)
Almost any GPU (Inc. 8800GTX (In XP)) vs Overclocked 7800 ? Such pwnage, you could call it 'h4x' !

The point is,
the PS3 is a good system, but it isnt nothing 'OMFG WTF L33T H4X !'.
However, I would still get the PS3 just for MGS4.
The MGS series is the best series of games EVER made.

Believe me-
play MGS2 and MGS3 for PS2, and your opinion of everything will totally change.

Strangely enough people are different and thus have different opinions on games, I never saw much appeal in mgs I've played through all of them and while they are pretty decent, it seemed too mechanical feeling, it's difficult to put into works but I felt one was never ever truely in control.

fanboysim is lame, your no better than a halo or mario fanboy with an opinion like that.

Did I...er...do something to you ?!

Ok-
you didnt enjoy it. Ho hum.
However, almost every person who has played MGS that I know has called it one of the best series made. The people who havent have still thought it was a extremely good game.

I also struggle to see what you mean by "One was never truely in control".
In my opinion, I have more control over the character in MGS than in any other game.
But whatever-
you are entitled to you own opinion.

Forgive me if you do not enjoy very deep stories in games.
I apologise for actually assuming you would have ENJOYED a game which actually made you think.

Ptsh. Talk about rudeness...

Isn't the next MSG Xbox 360 now as well? :) PS3 is dead in the water. Not one single exclusive title on launch in the UK. DOn't waste your money. Get a 360+HD drive and put the left over money towards an Apple.

Get over it dude. He was stating his opinion just like you were stating yours. Though I agree with shellbryson. PS3 is going nowhere fast.

You simply can't compare PS3 to Mac Pro. For it's intended uses, Mac Pro mops the floor with the PS3. For it's intended uses PS3 mops the floor with Mac Pro.

It's like asking "which is better: A bus or a Porsche?".

I've been hearing that MGS 4 won't be a Playstation 3 exclusive, like other big games. I think the PS3 needs some serious help if it's going to be a real competitor with the Xbox 360. I'm a little biased I suppose, as I own an Xbox 360, but then again, there's a reason I don't want a PS3, and it's not because I can't get my hands on one.

I don't know. The fact that I can play Call of Duty, Empire at War, and Oblivion at 2560x1600 on a 30" screen with all the options turned up on a Mac Pro and get incredibly smooth gameplay puts the Mac in front of the PS3 for me.

I don't hate the game, it's pretty decent and I liked it well enough to play all of them all the way through, it's just not the best game ever and I hate it when people act like that around something*and say so in such a way in which they try to force their opinion on others, my favorite video game of all time is fur fighters, however I'd never say it's the best game ever it's just the one I personally took the most joy from.

It was the controls and gameplay I found too ridged, it just did not feel right everything was awkward for me, I like a game where I'm in as much control of everything as possible and I never felt that, as for the story it never grabbed me much and seemed pretty atypical for a video game, if you consider that deep may I suggest you go to the library and read some real books.

The PS3 is lame anyway. It's just an evolution of the old-fashion console.

The Wii, despite poorer graphics, is far more entertaining. The Wii is clearly revolutionary.

This from someone who never really got into gaming.

My ideal setup would be a Wii and a Mac Pro. Since I already have the Mac Pro, I guess it's just a matter of time before I get the Wii.

And you do that while sitting by your desk, as opposed of sitting on your couch. And how much do you have to pay to be able to play like that on your Mac?

Like I said: PS3 and Mac pro are two totally different animals.

I disagree. The Wii doesn't do anything that hasn't been around for decades. When the analog cut-off finally happens and as HDTV continues to be more affordable Nintendo will rue the day they didn't include hardware from this decade in their machine.

What they did that's brilliant is standardize on that type of control. Another poster commented in a thread in the gaming section that add-ons never work, and he/she was right. If Sony made an add-on for the PS3 that did wii pointing and stuff, hardly any games would be made for it. Remember the Super Scope? I can't believe I wasted a birthday present on that thing.

The Wii control is a novelty. I've read countless posts of people who get tired of swinging the thing around in Zelda or find it too finicky to be useful in COD3. It wears off fast. What doesn't wear off is playing something like Wii Sports with your friends, because you're laughing and having a great time. That's where the fun is, but how often does everyone get together?

Sony made mistakes, Microsoft made mistakes, but Nintendo's biggest mistake was not future proofing their system. All my bets with friends have my money where my mouth is that Nintendo will stay at #3 when everything shakes itself out in a couple years.

That being said, I still plan to get one when Super Smash Bros. Brawl comes out. :)

Ok, so this may be a silly who-is-stronger-Hulk-or-Superman type question, but I'm just curious.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ps3#Hardware_summary

Eeek IrishGrizzly

That's the kind of question that gives credance to the impression of drunken stupid Irishmen. ;)

Heck not even a culchie kerryman would have dared ask such a ridiculous question :p

I applogise to the whole MR community and re-assure you that were not all stupid & drunk......

hiccup..... ;)

Not one single exclusive title on launch in the UK. DOn't waste your money.

That's a strange post, and lacking any real substance. For it's not even released in the UK, and when it does it actually has more exclusives than it did when it launched in Japan & USA

Lair
Warhawk
Formula 1

RR7
Gengi
Tekken 5
Motorstorm

Resistance Fall of Man
Untold Legends

the ones in bold are new exclusives for the UK launch that were not available in Japan or USA launch.

I'm not bigging up the PS3 by any means but just addressing a misinformed post.

Then I take it back :) You are quite right (now that I googled rather than recyling hearsay)
