Hi Folks,

Checked my classic Mac Pro again. Still has a blank screen. I don't have another machine unfortunately. Not sure what to do. Sounds like this behaviour is not normal. I've looked on the Sonnettech site (on my iPad) for any compatibility issues with Yosemite and the Tempo SSD Pro pice card. No information found.

Alt Out!

Version: 10.10 (just released)
Mac Pro: (Early 2009 quad)
GPU: AMD HD 7950

I'm using this as a test bed for Yosemite before I put it on my new Mac Pro. I've also been using the preview Yosemite on a laptop and it's been fine with essentially no glitches detected.

So far it seems just fine, other than a few incompatible plugins. Nicely they warn you about this right after install now

  • Wacom Control Panel plugin and driver (auto uninstalled)
  • GPGTools
  • One other, darn it I forgot.

Some interesting things

  • The GPU fan is better controlled now. Quieter - I can't hear it at all whereas before it was slightly audible.
  • Safari is more 'hinky-jinky' while typing in text. Can't say whether that's just the web pages I'm on or Yosemite yet.

trim enabler is also a problem..if you enable it..they would disable some kind of kext...whatever that is.

Using my Mac Pro 2010 with the GM3 still, I did notice bootups times are really slow, other than that it's been pretty nice.

Should I bother reinstalling the public release from the GM3 or is it not worth the work?

Version: 10.10
Mac Pro: 5,1 (2010 hex)
GPU: AMD Radeon R9 280X

Updated to 10.10 from 10.9.4. Initial boot was scary with Finder lagging everywhere. Spotlight and Quicklook were almost unusable (30+ seconds for a JPEG Quicklook). After letting it sit for a few hours, a Permissions repair and a couple of reboots it's working better.
Still some interface lags, like typing this message in Safari where the text takes a second or two to appear. Might have something to do with AppNap ?

I like the new Spotlight, but Little Snitch notified me that search terms where being sent to Bing and "Spotlight Suggestions". Turned those off in the Spotlight preferences.

Quickly tested FCP X, Resolve 11, Photoshop CS6, After Effects CS6. All seem to work normally.
My R9 280x is running quieter when idle.

Sleep Problems ... AGAIN??? APPLE????

So my new Mac Pro is waking itself up periodically and staying awake, because I don't have it on auto sleep. Apple just can't ... seem ... to ... get this right. Sigh ... anybody else?

That was awful...

Just chiming in to say it didn't "just work"

However after nearly all weekend trying to get my 5.1 12 core to boot after installing 10.10 ti seems to be finally working.

Sheesh that was a lot more effort than it should have been.

I think Apple needs to spend a bit more on actual QA testing of their software and a bit less time selling headphones...

Mid-2012 Mac Pro, 3.33Ghz 6-core, 8GB RAM, PC GTX 570.

Alright... A day ago I went ahead and pulled the trigger on updating my 2012 3.33ghz 6-core with my PC un-flashed nvidia GTX 570 gpu.

The install, I must say, went perfect. Download finished, rebooted to the usual blank screen that eventually lit up to the install process just like any other major update. Rebooted when finished and I was back to my desktop rather quickly.
(performance was slow for a bit at first, as a warning had told me it would be while my MP was being "optimized")

So far the only things I noticed:
System fans run much slower then before. (slightly higher idle temps, but way quieter)
One time I got an odd delay from my music control keys (f7, f8, f9 itunes keys) A reboot fixed this.

Programs that stopped working for me:
Temperature Monitor (many of my sensors no longer detected, I ended up getting iStat Menus)
Final Cut Pro (just needed an update, already done now)
Yahoo messenger (waiting on an update, wont even launch)

Operating system performance overall I can say is perfectly fluid, just like Mavericks was. I have yet to play a game in this OS, but I will soon fire up Guild Wars 2 and see how it goes. I'm sure it will be the same as always.

^^^^Temperature Monitor didn't work, because it's outdated.

6-core new Mac Pro user here. So far, Yosemite has been pretty good with my Mac. Everything seems to be working as expected. I'm still unsure of how to feel about the new Spotlight though. I feel it updates slower then the old Spotlight which was almost instantaneously.

I believe I had FCP X 10.1.0 previously. I had to update to 10.1.3 in order for it to even launch the application.

My 2013 Mac Pro keeps waking up. Grrrrrrr Apple, why do you keep effing up sleep?

My 2013 Mac Pro keeps waking up. Grrrrrrr Apple, why do you keep effing up sleep?

No sleep issues on this beautiful 2009 booting off an Apple samsung PCI-e SSD, thing is running smooth as silk. I like Yosemite, and with the bluetooth 4/wifi ac upgrade, looking forward to Continuity as soon as I'm brave enough to go to iOS 8.1

My 2009's wired network connection doesn't work after waking from sleep since I upgraded. Everything looks ok in system preferences, but I can't ping the gateway or connect to anything on the network or Internet. Rebooting fixes it temporarily. I'll do some troubleshooting after work tonight.

I just posted this in the 10.10 forum but my 2009 MP/4c/GTX285/24GB Ram is lagging like mad. I didn't notice it until today (my first real full day with it) and open/save dialogs, finder windows and switching desktops are horribly slow/choppy like I'm running a 10yr old gfx card.

Yes same here on a 2009 Mac Pro except it does go back to sleep - wake on network activity is however switched off - see also this thread:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1766477/

There are RTC alarm messages in the console that suggest it is a scheduled event but a PMC reset doesn't fix it and others have tried a clean install.

Hope Apple can issue a fix soon as it is a problem on an older Mac Pro if you sleep in the same room because the noise of the fans spinning up briefly can wake you.

won't stay asleep - nMP (late 2013) 6 core

seems good otherwise. I have a Cinema 27 and an HP ZR2740w and the fonts are "ok" even though it's obvious this OS cries out for a retina type display

SMB browsing Windows shares is fast - always gave me trouble in Mavericks

Which is kinda lame imo. Not everyone is willing to update their otherwise perfectly fine display(s) just because the OS has been optimized for one specific type of display.

I like how Yosemite looks, but I would guess the vast majority of users don't have "retina type displays"

Back on topic I upgraded my mid-2012 at work this morning, worked on ProTools all day without a single glitch. I just had to reinstall my audio drivers, which for some reason were undetected the first time after installation.

Yosemite has breathed new life into my 2006 1,1 Mac Pro. It just feels snappier and smoother.

Thanks again to the clever people on here that made it possible.
