You previously said you did primarily motion graphics:p. I figured if you're using lightwave, you probably started some time ago.

I don't know why but the Iris blur test didn't seem to work with the GT120. I also have to wonder what they did to that mesh to push times so high without gpu acceleration. Liquify is pretty archaic at this point. The rebuild tools haven't changed much from version 6 to CS6.

What did they do? My concern with them was the debacle where they claimed their NAND was somehow superior.

I never said I did motion graphics. 3d product rendering, and product animations.

Think I may end up throwing another $1000.00 at this Mac Pro. I want to do it right this time. I definately want the best GPU, at at least midrange processors.

If you like deception and an attitude that their customers are dumb-asses then yes, awesome! My experience only. I wanted to like them. But lying instead of saying you don't know is pretty low on the trust spectrum.

I've had some issues with orders in the last few months. (They sent me the right HD tray, but it had the wrong screws, so the drive wouldn't attach, and I needed to return a few things. I also at one point ordered something, and then added a bunch of other things to the order about 2 hours later by calling them). In my experiences, their customer service has been amazing. Maybe they've just turned around since you used them.

What happened to this ^

?

They never delivered! So I canceled the order. They probably are delivering now, but no way will I give up this shot at a Mac Pro. I really thought it was dead! I stand corrected. I hope.

Bleh.. I hate being wrong. What kind of product animations?

I do everything fro m the 2003 Mars Lander to cable reveals. a high end cable manufacturer ran a def animation I did at this last CES.

$7k seems overkill. Max out the cpu options and graphics. Everything else add yourself. You can do all that for probably $4-5k. Spend the rest on another LCD or something.

Really? HP wasn't actually shipping? I am shocked. Shocked!

I thought you said they were shipping.

How does that humble pie taste, Tony? Now let's just hope that the Mac Pro does indeed get an update so I don't have to eat it myself.

I admit it. I really hope these rumors are true. If not, i will spend the money on a third floor expansion on my house so I have a window to jump out of!

No worries, mate. I also hope the rumours are true.

25 years ago you could have gotten all this:

A standard configuration for the Macintosh II that included a 16MHz Motorola 68020 CPU, 1MB of RAM, an 800KB floppy disk drive, a 40MB internal SCSI hard disk, an 84-key keyboard, a 4-bit graphics card, and a 12-inch monochrome monitor could run you $6,396 (that’s almost $13,000 in today’s dollars when adjusted for inflation).

Replace those monochrome options with a 13-inch color monitor and an 8-bit color display card, and you were looking at a financial outlay around $7,145 retail (about $14,400 today).

Happy birthday Mac2! :D

This doesn't surprise me that much. HP was the only large vendor that claimed to be shipping units. I never thought it would take anywhere near this long for Sandy Bridge E to really filter out.

That sounds really cool. Is there a link to it?

That's the funniest thing you've ever written on here, although $7k sounds like a tight budget for adding on a third floor.

Thanks for that it really made me laugh.
Also, thanks for your honesty.
I hope you get the Mac Pros you wish for.

PS:
After months with not a word about the Mac Pro we get a new rumour every day!

I just buy matching ecc ram off newegg. They offer will call so I don't even have to wait. Saves me about 500 bucks compared to apple ram

They said their firmware was completely theirs. Anything Sandforce did not affect their products. They write the firmware. I chuckled but was very upset they lied so greatly. I was like "So can I speak with your very skilled engineers then?". I did and they had to relinquish that they use stock firmware. All the same bugs all the same everything. Maybe your issue was synchronous vs. asynchronous or something? Either way they need to either know more about their products or at least be up front. Let us decide whether it is good enough or not. At very least you'd have some respect. Otherwise though great stuff and I am glad they exist. I avoid but sometimes I can't. They just have things others don't.

Thank you. I enjoyed it.

That is pretty bad. Custom firmware also sounds like expensive R&D for a smaller shop. I would find that annoying too. I do remember their marketing claim of "Grade A NAND" implying that theirs was fundamentally different.
