Does anyone know if there are RGB memory options for the 5,1? I'm considering doing the acrylic side panel mod(or purchasing one) and making the 5,1 light up inside and look amazing.

Does anyone know of replaceable parts that are RGB that work natively on the 5,1? I know that I could install LED light strips, but I would prefer something better than that.

LOL, what? of course it is! well mine is a wonderful 14 year old electronic toy the I use for so many things! I personally think it would be so nice to have the inside lit up like a gaming PC and be able to see it. I know now that there are no RGB DDR ECC module options, but making the Mac Pro glow would be very nice!

i just bought 15 ft baby blue l.e.d. lights. im gonna lace up the inside with it. i did want the rbg fans but i didnt want to lose the native fan control. Also a guy showed me his 5,1 and he has rbg ssd and rbg gpu, and rbg pcie, looks nice but hes gotta keep the side open to see it. i on the other hand cant keep my side panel open due to where my mac sits, so ill just see the pretty christmas light from the front of my 5,1.😁

Is there a list of confirmed working server RAM for the 3,1?

A few years ago I bought such sticks (meeting the 3,1 specs) but they caused my machine to run the fans on max.

OCLP Monterey runs like very well but occasionally it needs more than 32GB.

Thanks in advance
Philip

Thank you very much for the suggestion. Unfortunately they look like the ones i tried. As Alex says the 3,1 requires fully buffered modules but I'm not sure they even exist in the required size to increase the RAM being 32GB.

MacPro3,1 requires FB-DIMMs…

64 gb mac pro ram 2008

They do exist, though to get it all, or almost all, visible to Mac Pro is another thing. I have tried and succeeded to get at least 48 reliably. I think I got more sometime, but as said, they (RAM modules) might be quite finicky in their behavior.

I get different sizes between boots. Everything seems to work ok though, but I am not definitely sure about that.

You can use both 667MHz and 800MHz. Quite pricey they are today it seems.

There should be a thread about max RAM in 2008 and 2006, maybe try some different search wordings.

Found a couple of related threads:
MacPro 3,1 64 GB Ram GTX 680 Mojave - Complete System Slowdown
cMP 2008 + 64GB MEM = SLOW DISKS while 48 GB = FAST DISKS; why?

Thank you very much for replying and for the links. Those sticks look like the ones i ordered several years ago but perhaps I got one of the specs wrong. And you're right, prices have really soared compared to what I paid then. I wonder why. At such price levels it's not worth it but who knows maybe prices will come down. Thanks again.
