I hear the fan when I mine for Bitcoins, but only did it for fun.
Surely the thing would run better, cooler?
You mean to say, that you are surprised that running an application that specifically puts the CPU and GPU into 100% usage over a long period made the machine heat up and the fans work harder?
You do understand how basic thermodynamics work right?
Mining Bitcoins is like putting your Ferrari on a Dyno machine. It's gonna run quite hot.
I responded to a specific scenario.
Running it day to day, if you put your hand over it, it runs hot. Not mediocre. Hot.

If you are wanting to even pay for the electricity your nMP will use mining, you are way too late for that party. Donate your CPU time to the Folding project instead of wasting your nMP pointlessly.

Its thermal design is to dissipate hot air out of the top. You have a maxed out 12 core d700 model and the fan is sucking all that air to the top which is transferring all that thermal energy through the power supply and thermal core while still remaining extremely quiet.
Get one of those temperature guns like they have in that video if you are that bothered about it. If you put your hand over the top aside from warming your hand all you will be doing is making it run warmer by restricting the air flow.
Did you start this whole thread so you could drop in the fact you have "staff"? another pointless thread!
If you are sensing great amounts of heat being propelled away from this device, then the cooling system is doing its job. If the case is burning your fingers and yet the fan is not running, then I would start worrying. Until then, working as advertised.
Your nMP already provides a good cooling solution:
It has a very effective fan, and an aluminum heat chimney, plus the aluminum case which, in combination, results in a very effective heat conductor, both through the case, and up through the fan and out the top. Because of that, it will get warm, perhaps "hot" (which is a subjective assessment without numbers to back that up), which is completely normal, particularly in a high-resources activity like bitcoin mining.
That produces heat, which has to go somewhere. What other result would you expect? It's the second law of thermodynamics, if I recall my old physics class. I don't think that's changed recently.
I don't think you'll get in trouble, unless you block the air circulation
So you're saying that you feel the heat coming from the top of the machine?
What that means is the product is doing a good job of removing that heat from the system if it is nice and warm at the top.

[edit] fwiw, i'm not trying to imply you're a (whatever) for saying it runs hot.. it probably does.. i don't have mine yet to get an opinion on whether it's warm, hot, or don't put your hands near the thing..
