It would kind of be ironic, that the Mac Pro might actually be the cheapest part of that deal. Not discounting people who might want to do things like this as a hobby or part time money for fun who are on a budget of course.

Indeed. The software I use every say (tragically, on the Windows 7 side of my machine) makes the "Fantasy 12-Core Dream Machine" specs look like inexpensive bargains.

Thank god for university site licenses.

It's not. Even if (like myself) you drop 3 grand on CS every couple of incarnations, the difference between $2500 for the cheapest MP and a $1000 hackintosh (which is also higher specced) is enough to make me go for the latter. *shrug*

Only if you buy it. The majority of people who have software havent paid for it. Adobe make most their money from schools, colleges and Uni's.

my hack is running great aside from a hum. Im in the same boat as you tho. I have the $ and I dont know whether to upgrade my hack/build a new one. or buy an i7 imac/mac pro. i may just buy a macbook air and update my hackintosh with more ram and an ssd.

+1 for running 10.6.6 with no problems on my hack

Same. Also upgraded in the same manner regular Mac Pro users upgraded ... and on the same day.

BTW - I do professional Final Cut Studio and CS4 work on this system.
