This translates to roughly 20% year-over-year growth for the Mac in terms of revenue if the PC market didn't have a decline.

While these are fantastic results, I think Apple can do much better.

I'm hoping that Apple releases a $750 - $799 Macbook SE (using current 13" Air), and add a 15" Macbook Air to the lineup. A Macbook SE would beat the living snot out of midrange PC laptops. In the US, iPhones own 53% of the market while Macs own just 14%. This means most iPhone users use Windows computers. For those people who were planning to buy a $500-$600 Windows laptop, it would be seriously enticing to pay a little extra for a Macbook SE and stay within the Apple ecosystem. And a 15" fanless Air would be a killer product for office workers, students, and even most developers.

I believe these two additions would greatly accelerate Mac's growth, which would benefit all Mac owners in terms of developer support.

Sources:
Why would those people buy a windows laptop? Lots of people get a laptop from their work and don't have a say in it.
And many people perfectly go by with just an iPhone.

Forget it, macOS will never match with Windows.
The US market shows a different picture.

I think we should track macOS market share in the U.S. because most of the developers are in the U.S. and are primarily targeting U.S. customers.

Apple needs to evolve macOS to cater to more kind of users and professionals, at this point there's no competition for video editors, photographers, web developers and app developers and while the hardware is more than capable the softwares just isn't there for 3D artists, game developers, architects etc.

I really expect a massive upgrade to Metal API at WWDC along with software support from many devs or at least native Vulkan support.

I think this is the question of the culture more than anything.

What kind of features in the Metal you expect to see? It’s already arguably more capable and certainly much more streamlined and user-friendly than Vulkan/DX12 in core areas.

US market share is meaningless. That's only one country.
Although the market share ratio between iOS and Android worldwide is similar to that of macOS and Android, the iOS app market is better than Android because iOS is so popular in the United States. So, I believe that the macOS app market would improve if the market share of macOS increased in the United States.

US + Europe constitute the majority of wealthy, paying customers. So it's far from meaningless. Just a quick example: Android marketshare is what, close to 90% worldwide? And yet the iOS apps generate more revenue than Android, simply because iOS users are more likely to spend money on apps and services.

Haven’t you learned from previous years? You shouldn’t expect anything or you’ll be disappointed. This year will be no different.

I agree with this. Apple needs to expand to gamers and machine learning folks. Those are the biggest drivers for fast hardware right now as both are constantly bottlenecking software.

I think Apple would have to betray some of their principles if they wanted to increase their popularity in those markets, and I don't see them doing that anytime soon.

Would Apple sell an affordable computer that gamers could upgrade every year?

Would Apple make their machine learning libraries open source like Google or Facebook did?

at least native Vulkan support.
Is there any major Windows software that supports Vulkan that you would like to have on macOS? Games don't count.

So? Both market share and revenue for Mac are extremely low and that's the fact. Beside, did they even increase the market share in USA? Not at all.

I hope Apple takes gaming on macOS and the Mac in general more seriously moving forward, because this is one of the pillars where there are yet to dive in which will bring a lot of gamers & developers alike.

Heck, there's a lot of people like me out there who carry two laptops a Mac for work and a gaming laptop for playing in between travels.

Well, that just shows macOS limitations. It does not mean that we have to take them into account to get a better market share for Apple.

I don't see how supporting games and machine learning seriously would betray their principles.

Gaming laptops aren't affordable. So not sure why Apple has to make one that is affordable.

As for machine learning, Apple needs to invest in developers who contribute to Pytorch and Tensorflow to take 100% advantage of Apple Silicon.

I can't understand why Apple sometimes chooses the hard way. Apple could have donated their Tensorflow plugin to Google, so that all packages that rely on Tensorflow would have worked seamlessly. Instead, Apple has chosen to keep it closed source, so other packages don't work. Now, Apple has to maintain and provide those packages as well.

Hardcore gamers play on desktops, not laptops, because they are upgradeable.

Since the market share of macOS in the U.S. is higher than in other countries, you're more likely to see a mac computer in a U.S. movie, TV series or YouTube instructional video than from any other country, and that's what most of the Western world sees. When was the last time you saw a mac in a non-U.S. TV series?

Doesn't really change the fact that overall Mac marketshare is still low.

This doesn't account for DIY unbranded PCs which is a superset of PC sales. There are probably about 100 DIY PCs or maybe more sold for every Mac. Up until recently demand for the DIY PCs for the last two years has been so high that it drove valuation of PC components like GPUs up to ~3x msrp. Demand is starting to taper off because transitional period to next generation GPUs and CPUs. Tempted by current Nvidia GPU prices at near msrp but going to wait for next generation RTX4000 series which usually doubles performance with every new generation.
