If you look at the buyer's guide here at the top of the page, you can make your own informed guess.

The other machines that got updated are around 580 days, the Mac Studio is at 100 days right now.

Might be a short wait for the update.

What are predictions for a M2 Max Mac Studio? End of year or next year?
All you can do is look at previous patterns and speculate.

The only Apple Silicon Macs to get an update so far are the MacBook Air and 13” MBP - after 18 months.

The regular M2 only just launched. The M1 Pro/Max chips didn’t appear until 10 months after the regular M1. The Mac Studio range didn’t launch for another 6 months until the M1 Ultra appeared.

The M1 Pro/Max debuted in the 14/16” MBPs, which aren’t even a year old yet.

The Mac Pro hasn’t had an update since 2019.
The previous Mac Pro - which is the closest thing to the Mac studio Apple have done in the past - didn’t get an update between 2013 and 2019.

We don’t even know for sure whether there will be a M2 Max SoC! Some people see the M2 as a stop-gap ”M1.5” to provide a minor bump for the MBA/13”MBP (Apples biggest sellers by a long chalk) until the 3nm chips arrive, in which case Apple might skip the Pro/Max/Ultra variants until the M3. Or they might adjust the Pro/Max/Ultra business model (I’m wondering if the “Pro/Max” distinction might disappear).

In other words, don’t hold your breath.

I do wonder if the Studio will get an M2 Max this year even if it's announced. They probably will release the M2 Max this year, but I have a feeling they'll wait until next year to put them in the Studios. Just can't see them updating it in such a short time since it was only released 2 months ago.

Then again, it will be a hard sell to continue selling an M1 Max when M2 Max is available.

Tough decision... stay with Mac mini M1 even though I need more memory until Studio M2 Max is released or upgrade to the Studio now.

I'd also take into account that Mac Studios are still hard to come by today (3 months after release), so unless you want the base model without any custom specs, the wait will be even longer.

Not a chance. Apple doesn't do updates that quick, and the reason is it costs a LOT of money to make a new model. You don't just snap your fingers and it happens, there all sorts of money and time constraints in the development of a new product, even if there's already a new CPU for it.

They probably will release the M2 Max this year,
Probably next year, but maybe for the Mac Pro, who knows -- only Apple.

but I have a feeling they'll wait until next year to put them in the Studios.
My bet would be 2024 at least, and probably not in early 2024.

Then again, it will be a hard sell to continue selling an M1 Max when M2 Max is available.
Why? If you need lots of RAM and a Max or Ultra, and you don't want to buy a Macbook, the Studio is all you can buy. I'll buy a laptop with a Ryzen 5, even though there's a Ryzen 7 available for instance, and I bought a Studio Max, even though there was a Studio Ultra available. One buys what they think they need and can afford. The M2 isn't going to change anything that way, at least not with my buying. (and I buy PC's for a company)

Tough decision... stay with Mac mini M1 even though I need more memory until Studio M2 Max is released or upgrade to the Studio now.
If you need more RAM now, buy now. If you wait for the next latest and greatest all the time, you'll never buy anything. The M3 will probably be out near the time the M2 Ultra comes out...

Buy computers for what you need right now, not for speculating what is coming up soon - that's why you max the configuration according to the budget you have.

A Google search will turn up a lead or two to multiple configurations in stock in the USA, ready for next day delivery from a reputable authorized seller. IIRC, one had 10 different Max Studios and 4 Ultras late last week, and still has 10 or so with stock arriving a couple times per week over the past month.

I can't find these elusive Mac Studios, supposedly ready to be shipped...
Aside from being mentioned in a recent thread or two around here, a glaring clue is in your very hands if that's you in the avatar. They are known around the world for selling those gizmos to pros. In fact it's in their name too, preceded by the founding husband and wife's first name initials (Blimie & Herman) in the big "Apple." Surely, they've taken your money before (I just read your other Studio thread). If not, you're in for a real treat!

Better hurry though. This morning they had about 10 configs. ATM they're down to 4 tonight, yet still including the exact config I waited it out for, which IMO, is the "sweet spot" for options, performance, and the price at 3200 bucks (same config you say you want). If past history is any indication (and it is...so far), they'll have more within a few (biz) days, if not sooner.

Yep - they have indeed taken plenty of my money, but they will not ship Mac Studios to Canada… And, even if I could work around that, the price for the combo I want (M1, 10/32/16c, 64GB, 2TB) is about $750 more delivered here in Saskatchewan, than waiting another 4 weeks for Apple to deliver…

Yes, B&H has M1 Maxes in stock, and I don’t know it is the exchange rate right now, or if they are overcharging, but the identical configuration is actually a few hundred dollars cheaper in Canada. And, B&H will not ship Macs to Canada…

There is about 18 months between M1 and M2, which is also what was rumored a year ago. So going by that, I would also expect an updated Studio to be announced at WWDC (15 months after the initial Studio release) And released a month later. That being said, I think that is too long a wait (1 year from M2 release), so my bet is around January-March, and then again at WWDC24 with the M3 at 3nm. Personally I will be waiting for the latter. :)

I went ahead and bit the bullet and ordered one today. I had a 1134 page PDF document that was getting pretty sluggish to scroll through. The increased memory should help a lot.

For the last several weeks, Apple has consistently been early on delivery of M1 Max configurations.

I ordered a M1 Max/64 GB/2 TB from B&H that should be here Tuesday.

I'm not talking about B&H, I'm talking about Apple. As a NY resident and long-time happy B&H customer, I won't buy a computer from B&H. Some people may find B&H attractive if they use B&H's in-house credit card to beat the sales tax, but in my view it is not attractive otherwise. Apple has 12 stores in New York City, and they aren't hurting for business because of B&H.

I don't have B&H's credit card. What's your beef with buying computers from B&H? Return policies? The configuration I want will take 6 weeks if I ordered from Apple.

I don't understand his reluctance there either. I've done well into mid five figures worth of biz with B&H, and not once have they disappointed, quite the opposite in fact, and that includes buying new Macs from them (an authorized Apple reseller). Fair prices, great stock/selection, fast shipping, generous return policy, and gold standard customer service. Got the exact Max config I wanted, Studio display, and peripherals, cables, etc. with next day shipment. As soon as they get the Canon R5C in stock again, they'll probably get my money then too!

B&H's standard return policy doesn't apply to computers.
True, but that does not mean they won't accept a Mac return at all. They will...if you follow the applicable rules. Even if they didn't, it's not like you don't have other options, if necessary. You do.
