Mac sucks (hardware wise)

And Windows machines aren't? Come on man...nothing's perfect. The screen glare is only a problem if it annoys you. Me? Not a problem.

Then it's a good thing most Apple computers are not towers! Still, it's more stylish than most competitors.

It's a good thing this is Apple's lower-end model, then. Otherwise, higher quality screens would increase the price and then you'd probably be here complaining that Apple doesn't have a "cheaper priced" laptop.

Does anyone really care what people like this say? I'm so tired of it. If he's not happy with his Mac he should sell it, buy a PC (maybe an E Machine), and stop bothering us. I love my new IMac!

FWIW I've only owned 1 mac, and I've had it less than two weeks. So I'd like to think I'm open minded being a PC guy that always made fun of Apple fanboys.

I don't see a glare problem on my iMac and mine is not 'full of bugs'. Apple has sold some untold number of these and we are a SMALL fraction of the userbase. The ones with the problem constantly discussing it makes the issue seem larger.

As far as the MacBook viewing angle, I checked one out this weekend and had no issues with it at all. Maybe it doesn't open flat like a book might, but what laptop does?

Macbook pro is dated? yeah... maybe? Why mess with a good design that people still BUY?

The Mac Pro is non issue, next week the 'tower' gets updated.

The industrial design is always there - personally I think the Macbook Pro design is still very much ahead of the pack in terms of it's design purity.

It's just the quality and the engineering under the skin which ain't there.

The truth of the matter is, Apple has lost focus due to the freakin' iPhone and other "gadgets". The writing was on the wall once they changed their name to Apple Inc. and dropped the computer part. Lots of quality control issues happening (both hardware and software)

From the OP's list, it is quite apparent to most everyone that the Mac Pro is totally out of date, offering up 3-year-old GPU's, keeping the price points the same for old hardware. The Mac Pro is on Apple's "Pay No Mind" list.

The iMac suffers from HARDWARE freezes, due to the crappy choice of GPUs from a company that is in dire straits.

I've heard several times that Apple's decisions are run from the marketing department.... and I believe it. They need to sink some of that obscene profit they made last quarter into QUALITY CONTROL, across the board.

And I've yet to see any slow down with games with your 'crappy GPU'. Silky smooth in 1680 resolution all the way.

I assume you don't even have an alu iMac. Am I correct?

Can't really agree. My iMac hasn't had any of the reported issues and I've been more than satisfied with both it and my Mac Mini.

Just fyi - the Mac Pro is not for gaming, nor is the MBP.


If you want to game go build yourself a nice cheap windows box - and if you cannot build your own machine you really have no business criticizing Apple's design decisions...

First of all, I didn't see ANYONE mention gaming in this thread. Second, there are PLENTY of people here that can and have built their own machines, including me. If Apple allowed the OS to be installed on generic x86 hardware this would all be a non-issue.

Your comments have been said before and shot down numerous times. I haven't seen anything in the Mac Pro specifications on Apple's site that say "This machine is not for gaming". That logic went OUT the window with the PPC. Now that people can use BootCamp to load Windows, guess what? It can be used for gaming. The Mac Pro is the only machine that is somewhat upgradeable.

By the way, the ATI Radeon x1800xt is a gaming card. (...or was 2 1/2 years ago when it came out).

I have. 2.8. And it is a perfectly acceptable GPU if you choose what you're doing carefully.

However, it doesn't change the fact that there are far better choices available within the budget in the Wintel world and that on my latest HTPC, when I asked for a "dirt-cheap, low-end GPU since I'm not doing anything of consequence" the GPU on the iMac is what I got.

The HTPC builders had exactly the same objectives in mind as Apple, since I paid these guys considerably over the odds to meet very specific noise goals. The iMac's GPU runs cool (relatively speaking) enough to be passively cooled. That was also the reason why my builders specified the ATI GPU - not because it's a good performer but that it performs adequately for a low-end machine while helping to keep overall computer noise levels down.

However, I can also tell you that my HTPC runs quieter than the iMac, and it manages greater airflow to the GPU.

My iMac is not full of bugs. It has been rock solid since I got it in August. I love it. It is my first Apple computer, and quite frankly it has me looking to completely ditch Windows next year.

My only complaint is that the vertical viewing angle is a bit narrow, but I can live with it.

Lucky you, but a good number of people have been having their new iMac freeze. There is a special website for it and Apple have released numerous attempts at fixes.

I agree with the comments about quality control. Yes, it's important to keep costs down, but where do you draw the line, and say this is "too cheap."

My iMac doesn't freeze either. And if you read some of the polls here you will see there are quite a few others in the same situation.

This is being 'overblown' because there's 100 users on a mac forum and 49 of them are having problems. So it looks like a 49% Failure rate.

It still needs a fix either way.
