Ask them why not? Because they're used to Windows? It will take one week to get used to Mac OS X.

After several friends had raved about their new Macs (iBook and iMac respectively) when I started having problems with my WIN XP machine and was frustrated with the darned virus scan and firewall programs which hinder performance even as they are supposedly protecting the user's computer, I ventured into the Apple store...

First impression: wow, these are beautiful machines to look at! I looked at the desktop wallpaper and wondered, "where are all the icons? How do you DO anything? What's that little bar of icons down there? Is that like the WIN launch tray?" I didn't get much opportunity to play around with the machines and the OS because of an eager and attentive Apple salesperson. I like to have time to mess with things on my own.... I left the store impressed by the hardware but a little dubious about the software and OS. A couple days later I went back in for another look. I was getting more interested, but stil had no chance to just "look under the hood" by myself. Another day I was at Microcenter to pick up printer paper and decided to look at the new PCs on offer. Bleh. After a few minutes I found myself drifting into the section reserved for the Macs. Ah....at last, an opportunity to play with the Mac and Tiger to my heart's content! No hovering salesperson!

I also had started reading Macrumors and other Mac-related sites and so was right on top of things when they made the announcement about the new iMac. That did it. I knew the time had come.... I hustled into my local Apple store the very next evening and got me a Rev B iMac (I preferred it to the new one for several reasons), brought it home and opened the box, marvelling at the great packaging.

Plugged in my new iMac and thought, "OK, now this will take a while, getting it set up...." and was astonished when I found myself on the internet only a few minutes later! No fuss, no muss, no danged virus scan protection programs or firewall programs to worry about!

Heh.... I fell in love with my new iMac that very first night. The simple, elegant beauty of the machine and the simple, elegant beauty of the operating system totally amazes me. As they say, "Everything just WORKS!!!" The transition for me was very painless and although I had bought a couple of books, found that I really did not need to refer to them at all because everything is so intuitive in a Mac. After coming from around 18 years or so of using computers with DOS and then Windows, I was dumbfounded at how smoothly everything functions on a Mac. No hassles. It's so EASY! It WORKS!

I loved my iMac so much that after Steve Jobs' next big announcement, I ordered myself a BTO 15" PB so that I can have my Mac wherever I go...

The old desktop PC and my old laptop will be collecting dust because I sure as heck don't want to return to Windows now. I have seen the Mac Way of Life and it is GOOD.

Others have made note of the key points that make a Mac so much better, and i concur wholeheartedly. I also agree that someone needs to have the opportunity to not only see a Mac in action, but to have a little hands-on experience with it, too. For me that is what made a difference, the hour or so I had to just play around with it myself that one day in the store rather than having a salesperson babbling at me and showing me everything so fast that I really didn't get a chance to appreciate it.

I haven't yet discovered all the neat things I can do with my Macs, but, boy, I am sure enjoying the experience of using them!

Macs are so secure to US Military is switching, and benefiting from lower Total Cost of Ownership as well.

XSan and an ethernet cable turns any two g5s into a small supercomputer cluster... that has to saying something about the breed.

Integration vs Flustration... Quicktime is the best video format, its Apple... Itunes is the best mp3 management/player, also Apple... iPod is the most popular and fun to use mp3 player IMHO, yup its Apple... who had the first true GUI... Xerox, and then quickly after, Apple!

The basic windows machine they try and snare you with costing 499, is total *****. The basic OSX machine, Macmini, is smaller than a lunchbox and a great little machine for anyone but the most severe geeks (like myself!). And its ALSO $499!

Every windows installation is like weeds in your OS garden, the roots get entangled and one accidental yes to all... and you have to replant your whole garden (reinstall Windows) to get it normal again. Most OSX apps you delete one folder, and its mostly gone... no problems whatsoever.

Virus and spyware can make it into a windows system, you never know it happened. in OSx you have to approve every installation AND on top of that, no successful virii or spyware that I know of. VS needing to update Norton weekly for the latest batch of bots, popups and remote controlling softz.

Mac products are fashionable. Only highend PCs that are comparably priced vs Macs look descent, and often arent the best performers.

REGARDING TECH SUPPORT AND WARRANTY! You dont get a Dell rep when you pay for a 3 year tech support, they use India for phonecalls and 3rd party outsourcing for inhouse support. When you buy Applecare (Dells 3 year contract cost several hundred bucks too!), you reach Apple experts and repairs are handled by Apple experts.

Apple stores, one place to see everything cool and see how everyone else enjoys these tools. So the genius bar aint heaven, but CompUsa is full of Office Depot rejects... most of whom are more interested in getting an employee discount then helping you properly.

Each apple store visit I end up with a business card from at least one employee and we chit chat about apple tech, sometimes I know a lil more than them... but then again I get PAID and its expected that I know the most current tech inside and out.

You can use most USB and Bluetooth stuff on both platforms, so that Apple hasnt made a wireless two button mouse, isnt that big a deal.

Mac hardware retains its resale value better than most cars! 50% of sale price two years later is UNHEARD OF in the PC world!

I'm in the process of moving to apple at the moment (my 15" powerbook should be here tomorrow :D ) and the main reason I decided to move was because I am so pissed off with windows. It just crashes all the time and never, NEVER works efficiently for me.

Also another big thing that sold it for me was that there are no virus' on macs (so im told). My current pc has a virus on it and my norton antivirus isn't working.

The major only bad thing about moving to mac for me is that games run slower on macs and I cant get all the games I want :( . I WISH apple would sort this out and imagin how many more people would make the switch.

Many gamers are heavily invested in their collection so I understand
why they are reluctant to switch.

Now most that have switched do not use their P/C online at all.

The solution for most of them was to erase install Windows deleting all
unnessesary program files and optimizing the system as lien as possible,
then leaving their machines OFFLINE.

Following this procedure, they could forgo anti-virus applications, firewalls,
service pack updates and all the other things that bogged down their system.

The result was a faster gaming rig.

All their online activity is now confined to their Mac without all the headaches, but honestly most of them rarely even turn on their P/C
any longer.

Why bother?

My answer: why bother?!

I gave up arguing with PC people. I don't care if they don't like Macs. Especially when they start asking all kinds of inflammatory questions. I just say, "I have no interest in arguing with you. I don't care if you don't like Macs."

That usually shuts them up. Your silence will speak volumes.

Same with me. I try once, then I don't try again.

Whenever a few of my friends that come to me most frequently with PC issues show up, I help them out, then give them the same look I always do. They know what it means... ;)

Using a Mac is like floating on a bed of air, its effortless, friction free. Things just work.

I did a clean reinstall on my PC just last week and the bugger still keeps crashing, freezing up, slowing down. It feels like driving a tractor after you've been driving a Merc.

NO VIRUSES OR SPYWARE!!! That should be good enough right there. I just got a pretty new PC, keep in mind I got it off the side of the road. I had it hooked up to the internet for about a month before I finally found my norton anti-virus cd. When I ran it yesterday I had 3,700 viruses/instances of spyware!!! Ive had my mac mini hooked up to the internet for at least 5 months now and I don't have to worry about any virus or spyware stuff. It's a treat after dealing with the PC.

I'm calling the cops
Everything just works! As long as you are working with another mac user like in ichat. PCs are better at mac in these areas:

-Gaming
-ummm
-uhhhh
-Wait a second, I got one!
-oh wait, maybe not...

And if Anyone comes up to you and says "Macs suck because there is no software for it." BS man! Why would someone need Nero, Toast, MWP, iTunes, Musicmatch, and Windows Explorer to burn a CD? PC's have like millions of softwware but there are like 100,000 or each! All we need is iMovie, iDVD, iPhoto, iTunes, and Garageband. It's all we need in our iLife!

Yeah, pretty much same thing here except that I rub salt in the wounds when windows users ask why they are having such and such problem, I respond with "because you're using windows! :p ". But yeah, to echo most everyone else here, its a beautiful machine and it just totally works. No viruses/spyware/hardware issues. Also, I absolutely LOVE when people see my iBook and start asking about it (yeah yeah, Im an attention whore).

Well, I'd think this would go without saying. :D
