oh boy, you'll need a long explanation to give you the whole explanation.

first of all, obviously we tend to side towards macs being better.

macs run OSX while most PCs run windows xp

the biggest advantage of a mac is they dont get viruses

the jist of it is, mac os x is easier, safer, and it just works.

you should visit ww.xvsxp.com, a Mac vs. PC comparison site.

These days, Intel Macs run Windows, Linux, Mac OS X -- your choice.

PCs run Windows or Linux.

If you like the styling and HW features, nothing stopping you from buying a Mac -- even if you prefer jumping out the Windows.

---

Of course, because the MacBooks are taking slimness to the extreme -- Apple traded the socket for solder and a few less mm, so you cannot remove the Intel processor.

a different OS is the only thing now. so when you see a $600 dual core dell laptop and a $1100 apple with the same specs, you're simply choosing the OS bc the hardware is exactly the same.

thanks people, I am planing to buy the apple mac book for 1500(black) , i know that there is not big difference of it with the 1300$ version one, but I love black color more. and if I download windows to it, will it work faster than on pcs?

Show me the $600 Dell laptop that has the exact same specs as the $1100 Mac. You won't find one.

Not necessarily faster than a pc just because it's a Mac. You're probably thinking it's going to be faster than a PC because of the new Intel chips which are now being put in all Macs. Most Dells and other PC's have Intels so speed won't be faster unless you make it fast just like any other computer.

The basics will piss you off at first but once you get the few little quirks of Macs figured out you'll love it.

well, the other difference is quality control for the rest of the parts aside from the chips. Not to say that apple don't produce some real duds, but not to the extent that, for example, the local repair shop guesses your problem before you show them the computer (I've had this happen to me). Also, the OS is important. I'm discovering right now - that's why I have time to type this out! - that Windows does not manage memory/system resources well at all.

It's true that you can get windows machines with the same or similar specs., but personally I would pay the premium for the peace of mind.

Soon not much except a better operating system. Thats about it.:D

Your forgetting that Apple is managing to put machines with those specs into very slender sleek machines, and a lot of development goes into both the physical dimensions of Macs, as well as the OS. Apple has a lot of work on it's hands.

As for the original topic - I'm sure it would take the OP about one nanosecond on Google to find ten thousand pages of answers. In fact, it must have taken more effort to sign up to MacRumors just to ask this.

I think the only difference besides the OS is the industrial design. Simply, Macs are minimalist and almost every aspect is thought through.

The processors Intel puts into the Macs are actually slightly better than the ones they put in PCs. Larger memory bandwidth.

Also, that Dell only has 533 MHz RAM, and a 40 GB HDD, oh and Windows XP.

Let's also not forget it looks like

and Dell Laptops have a tendancy to do this

I think I'd go for the MacBook...

Well, if you think that has the same specs as a MacBook, I guess that's your prerogative. :)

u get my point man.

it's got a 1.66 compared to a 1.83 and a 40 gig compared to a 60 gig that's not worth $580 difference......

yeah maybe that's a MBP and magsafe???

the whole 'we dont get virsues' thing is definitely a massive plus.

but how about the fact that i NEVER have to restart my mac because of freezing problems. if too many apps are open on a windows pc, all hell will break loose.

however on my mac, i can open every single program there is at the same time, and she just keeps on ticking.

Among a number of other differences, it's also refurbished. Maybe you need to compare the price with a refurbished MacBook. So, I admit, I don't get your point. You're not making a fair comparison.

Also, the macbooks are multifunctional as seen in the picture below..
