Mainly because of Trojans/scripts that can be executed that would utilize your ROOT/GOD access to do harm on your computer. As far as OSX, the threat is very minimal but Windows machines need to be a little more careful.
That boost in memory can and will enhance your experience when using Graphic programs, web dev programs, and/or gaming. Also it will make some other things a little more snappy like OS X. However, if you download a lot of music, photos and use VM (virtual Machines) HDD space becomes a requirement.
So you have to weigh your needs and wants. Do I need more space because I download tons of photos and music? Or, do I use Photoshop and/or Dreamweaver and game a little, more RAM would be required.
is the jump from 1gb to 2gb significant?
if i was gonna do any upgrading, it would be hard drive 80gb to 120gb
(note- on an 80gb macbook, after os x and maybe neooffice, how much free space am i likely to have?)
cheers
