For a Macbook 12"I would just slap Catalina and use it with Firefox. Not iCloud account and that's all.

You will get a really good performance and it would allow you to use the web without problem. You can check the email on Firefox, use whatsapp/telegram web, etc. Maybe use iCloud in the web if you need to transfer any file.

The machine can't handle more than that. I loved mine but yeah, the performance was terrible.

It is very sad that the Neo is like a Mini Air M2. I'd love to have a Neo with the same size as the 12" Macbook

Before I upgraded to the Neo, i found using safari was so slow it was unusable. I then downloaded Chrome and ironically made it go faster, but for as beautiful the machine is; it's not a performer (i have the higher end config too - 512 GB/16GB/i5) . I sometimes do miss it though because it really is an aesthetic machine

A little post revival.

I took my MacBook on vacation because I wanted something light for all the flights. Nine years later, it's still an absolute solid machine. I honestly think it's the best Intel MacBook Apple ever made for travel and couch use.

The battery is currently showing 8 hours 46 minutes remaining. I couldn't tell you the exact real-world battery life because it lasts me all day and I just plug it in at night.

I have about 20 tabs open and no issues and any heavy lifting is done over a VPN connection to my desktop, so this machine just keeps doing what I need it to do.

I haven't touched my M4 Air in a long time. I think it has fewer than 10 battery cycles since I bought it, which probably says everything about how well this old MacBook is holding out.

2017 i7 16gb ram running windows 10 and have also done the cooling mod.

Think i will go ahead sell my M4 Air since it's a chunk compared to this one.

Nine years??!? Wow, that was (still is!) an awesome device. Hopefully my lil' ol' MBN works for me just as long!

Indeed it was a hidden gem!

Took awhile since I got the Neo, to finally notice I have not touched my 12" rMB.

It's now for sale - hoping for a second life with someone else that may love it like I did for 8 years flawlessly....

2017 12" rMB i5 8GB
Aww man. I sold mine like 2 years ago. Beautiful machine indeed. Good luck with your sell!

Apple had the opportunity to release a Macbook 12" with an Apple Silicon but now we have the Neo. Not a bad machine but not the same as the Macbook 12".

Always loved the size, the screen and the speakers. Anyone talks about the good quality and volume of the speakers.

Picked up a 2017 MacBook 12" i7 16GB RAM with 512GB SSD

Coming from my 2015 12" it runs fast. 2nd Generation butterfly keyboard and is a little clunky, but ok. Runs everything fast as this model has that burst every time it opens an app (designed purposely to give the feel of faster than it is..).

Have to say it handles well on macOS Ventura.

have an M3 fully loaded Air...but..really like the MacBook 12". Still works well in 2026.

It is still GREAT for travel.

Yes, I really hoped Apple would have released the Neo in the 12" size....

I just returned from Europe with the 13" Neo and loved it.
WiFi is lightning fast in Europe so it was a great low cost device to take along and not worry like I used with the $1300 12".
