Will there be a big Difference when the new macbook Airs are equipped with a Sandy Bridge processor? I am currently deciding on ordering the 13 inch 256GB 2.13GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook Air or should I wait for the Sandy Bridge processors? How much faster will the Sandy Bridge processors be? When do you think Lion will be released?

Any idea as to when Lion will be released? More towards the end of July?

So what would you do? Take a gamble and wait for the sandy bridge processors with Lion installed or buy the sure thing that works well now?

The pros and cons of buying now versus waiting for Sandy Bridge have also been discussed several times over in the last weeks. Look at the other threads in the forum.

I wanted your opinions, not the opinions of others from other threads.

cpu-wise, the new airs will be a lot better. if you don't care about gaming, wait for sandy bridge. in the other hand, if you don't need a really strong cpu and you only want the mba for surfing/chatting/movies, buy the current one, it's more than enough.
Lion will be released in july.

I don't think there's much of a "gamble" it's more of do you want to wait for the new stuff or get the existing stuff now.

The current MBA is by no means a 'gaming' machine, and since you haven't actually seen the upcoming MBA i think you should reserve judgement on how it performs in the area.

As for the OPs CPU question. The current CPUs were released in Quarter 3 of 2008 so they'll be a large improvement.

I respectfully disagree.

Discussion forums are for the sharing and dissemination of knowledge as well as being an information resource. They are not for the repeated answering of the same question because some people refuse to search.

In this case, Searching isn't even necessary. A simple reading of thread titles would have led the OP to the answers. However, it's a losing battle since there are far too many people willing to enable and encourage poor behavior.

actually, no. people should search and make use of the extensive amount of information already available in the forum.

these questions have been so beaten to death, even referring to them as 'beaten to death' has been beaten to death.

every new thread like this decreases the quality of the forum and is very discouraging, if not insulting, to those that have been kind enough to share their wisdom and advice in the past. personally, with so much overposting before the update, the last few months have served to greatly turn me off of this forum.

it can be annoying to search; reading threads, which are often very scatterbrained, can be hard. it's much easier to ask, so a lot of people just do. the more this tolerated, the more it will happen.

you may say its inconsiderate to point people to the search bar, but i think its inconsiderate of people to ignore it for their convenience, at the expense of others'.

Well stated. This environment is a direct result of the owners wanting more activity at the expense of the quality of the site. The only time moderators or administrators step in to combine threads, or much more likely close threads, is when they duplicate something in one of the News and Article Discussion forums.

Any time there's a pending Apple product or a jailbreak, this same thing happens and MR does nothing about it.

obviously the air isn't a gaming machine but the current air is (almost 100% sure) better for gaming than the new one with sandy bridge.

If you want to game on your MBA, get OnLive. Problem solved provided you have decent bandwidth.

MacRumors, meet Eternal September.

(And the veterans on the board, that doesn't find this to be annoying. Sigh.)
