Are you new to internet message boards?

Neb and TC wrote it best, and I'm surprised how this concept is lost upon people.

Forums work because people WITH ANSWERS take the time to browse, click on interesting posts and and contribute their knowledge, opinion, etc.

If everyone just posts the same question over 'n over again, those WITH ANSWERS will just go someplace else, and the forum will die.

It is as simple as that.

I think you may have over-simplified it since that doesn't actually happen.

Anyway, I agree the search function should be used and is grossly underutilized but I tend to be a bit more lenient towards a new member. But yeah, some of the reasons the OP gave for not doing a search didn't really make sense. Like wanting the opinions of "us" and not "others" even though many of "us" are the "others" who gave our opinions in the other threads. In the end, it comes down to laziness and wanting all your answers in your own thread. Nothing really wrong with that but at the same time, you should expect a bit of criticism for that act of selfishness.

While I agree that searching is underutilized, badgering a brand new member isn't the solution. S/he's far more likely not to post much more, encouraging to an elitism that's not really good for the site. One person asking for the TC to utilize the search tool and answering the question politely would be much more appropriate. Let's be civil, even if the 'net encourages uncivil behavior.

With that said, wait for Sandy Bridge if you can. It'll be better for everything except gaming, and it might even be on par. Waiting also discounts the price of current models, so that's a boon for patience.

actually, no. people should search and make use of the extensive amount of information already available in the forum.

these questions have been so beaten to death, even referring to them as 'beaten to death' has been beaten to death.

every new thread like this decreases the quality of the forum and is very discouraging, if not insulting, to those that have been kind enough to share their wisdom and advice in the past. personally, with so much overposting before the update, the last few months have served to greatly turn me off of this forum.

it can be annoying to search; reading threads, which are often very scatterbrained, can be hard. it's much easier to ask, so a lot of people just do. the more this tolerated, the more it will happen.

you may say its inconsiderate to point people to the search bar, but i think its inconsiderate of people to ignore it for their convenience, at the expense of others'.

If they could just search the forums they could just search google, and they would also be able to find out. However, it's alot less tiring to just ask the question on a forum like this. If you do not want to respond to the thread just don't, no need to be a rude sob imo.

I mean, why come here if not to ask questions you have no clue about how to search for answers to.

On topic:
The snb processors will definately be a huge boost, however the HD3000 is said to cause a setback in the graphics department.

So my advice for you, if you want to buy the macbook air, is to wait until the refresh, late june or early/mid july, and then decide whether you want the new macbook air or the old one.

The old one might be better for gaming, but if you game alot go for something else. However, if you don't game I'd say buy the new one, or if you want, you can buy the old refurb'd ones that should have gone down in price by then.

obviously the air isn't a gaming machine but the current air is (almost 100% sure) better for gaming than the new one with sandy bridge.

thats fine id rather take a hit in gaming, esp. since gaming on a 11" is pointless anyway, but get a current processor thats 30-40% faster.

everybody makes this lack of gaming capabilities but anyone who games a decent amount esp on the highest settings all have or should have a PC gaming rig. Even the most expensive Imac can't touch the performance of these new SB builds within the $1000-$1500 range.

the thread begins as follows:

Will there be a big Difference when the new macbook Airs are equipped with a Sandy Bridge processor? I am currently deciding on ordering the 13 inch 256GB 2.13GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook Air or should I wait for the Sandy Bridge processors? How much faster will the Sandy Bridge processors be? When do you think Lion will be released?

Search or look on the first 3 pages, already asked many times

Any idea as to when Lion will be released? More towards the end of July?

This has also been discussed, on the first page of MR. Wanna go for a third question that's already been answered?

So what would you do? Take a gamble and wait for the sandy bridge processors with Lion installed or buy the sure thing that works well now?

The pros and cons of buying now versus waiting for Sandy Bridge have also been discussed several times over in the last weeks. Look at the other threads in the forum.

pissy-comment-about-why-you-haven't-searched-for-this-already.

I wanted your opinions, not the opinions of others from other threads.

that was within the first 30 minutes.

If they could just search the forums they could just search google, and they would also be able to find out.

you're defending this person by deeming them incapable of a google search?

so, how do you think OP found this site?

OP repeatedly ignored suggestions to search, kept bumping his own thread up with the same questions, and explicitly said he was not interested in reading other threads. why? ...

... it's alot less tiring to just ask the question on a forum like this.

... precisely.

If you do not want to respond to the thread just don't, no need to be a rude sob imo.

i wonder if you even read this thread before defending the OP and calling me a rude sob. did you? did you read my post?

MacRumors is a general Apple forum, which includes asking and explaining basic questions, but certainly, ... obviously, i hope, ... it is about much more.

as for basic questions, i've answered my share in the past and will continue to do so, when the questions are genuine, when those asking are willing to listen and make an effort.

did you guys READ this thread ???

sure, sometimes people get jerky and snobby in this forum, and yes, new members often open their first posts with "please dont yell at me, but ... ", which indicates, at least a perceived hostility in the forum environment, something we should take careful notice of, ... but,

did you guys read THIS thread ???

as for civility, in spite of the OP completely ignoring responses and just repeating his questions, responders, while obviously annoyed, were for the most part entirely civil. in fact, i was the only one called a rude sob.

I think we should be recommending buying the current model weeks before the refresh with new OS. Maybe the OP will do it.

Well, if you behave like a douche, be prepared to be found out as one.
It's common courtesy to answer someone's question if they ask you.
As for the rude sob thing, it was meant for everybody who commented on the lack of searching rather than actually answering his questions.

Also, if making a thread which is already to be easily found on the forums is considered "naughty", wouldn't it be naughty to make a post in a thread which has already been made in that same thread several times?

- Anyway, this is all off-topic, and we should stop.

Can I ask why you say that? I'm a college student (just signed up) and I was looking at the Macbook Air.. never really even considered it before because I knew it was crazy expensive but the prices have come down from when I saw them last and... well after researching.. i'm pretty much in love with the 11.6 ! I was hoping I could play WoW at least.. and from what I can see it can be done decently.. I play on pretty weak settings as it is now so i'm not worried if its not "Ultra" or anything.. So why would the new processor be worse for gaming?

Yes, definitely.

I had a 2009 MBP 13" 2.5Ghz and thought it was reasonably fast. Just moved up to a 2011 MBP 13" 2.7Ghz and this is significantly faster and, according to Geekbench, faster than our quad-core 2009 iMad i5!

It takes just as much time to tell someone to search than to answer the OP's simple question. This thread is ridiculous.

The next MBAs will have a significant processor boost. I'd wait for Sandy Bridge unless it's absolutely necessary for you to purchase a new laptop now.

b.c with with the new processors you get a worse GPU. and b.c the MBA isn't geared towards gaming at all.

i love the mba 11 but it's not a gaming machine. Really no laptop is. If your really into gaming you should get a gaming rig. almost everyone i know who games has a desktop for it.

What about those hideous Alienware monstrosities whose batteries last 2 hours?
