The iPad is the future of EMR. If you want to be ahead of the curve - at least, in comparison with your fellow residents - become familiar with the iPad from a daily usage perspective.

I don't believe you can do much better than the 13" MBA for daily in-class use; on the other hand, using an iPad to take notes as you round isn't far-fetched at all. I'm unsure what your particular activity "mix" is, but if you can justify having both, I'd buy both ... the iPad investment in particular will pay rich dividends later on.

MacAir and ipad

I have both: 11 inch MBA and 32G wifi Gen 1 iPad. I find there is some overlap in use, but I take the MBA to work (I am a programmer and it works fine for me) and I use the iPad at home and when travelling to read books, magazines, to watch movies/tv, to surf the internet (I use Verizon MiFi), and check email. I am very pleased with the combination.

If I had to choose only, it would be the MBA. The keyboard is the difference.

I'm waiting for the iPad to get the x2 resolution, until then I'm more than happy with the crisp display on the 13 Air. The Air screen is usually at a distance where if I stretch my arm out it 's somewhere between my wrists and knuckles away from me. The screen appears sharp like my iPhone 4 at that distance. With the iPad you'd hold it closer and therefore the screen wouldn't appear as sharp as it does with the Air's. The Air's really feel like retina displays at that distance and because of that, for me anyway, you feel like your working on a very high quality display. I'm still blown away by the resolution more than 2 weeks after getting the base 13.
