Thanks everybody, this weekend I will be picking up a 2.13 MacBook air :)
I can't wait. My backpack is just too heavy and an extra 5 PBS won't do any justice in the scorching heat, my back has been sweating like crazy.

But anyways. My backpack has a laptop compartment, tnf surge, but I'm afraid my razor thin MBA will get damaged. Waterfield sleeve maybe? Any suggestions?

I know but I've already started school and all my classes use online hw progrAms. Can't wait much longer.

And besides I love the current air anyway. And it could be months before a new update

Scottsdale do you teach Business? Im going to be a business major next year and was wondering if the Air would be fine for that. So in your opinion its perfectly fine? I would get the next refresh or refresh after that depending on how quick they are and I would get the SSD.

I guest lecture a few business courses per year. I would eventually love to teach full-time, but currently the money doesn't support it. I would need to focus my time at a university. Right now, I focus on consulting. Since I am battling cancer, I haven't taught a course for a year. I am finally going back in the Spring semester though, and I am looking forward to it. My passion is helping people succeed in business. At a university, I can help upwards of a few hundred people per semester, while my consulting leaves me focused on a couple per project.

I really believe the MBA is amazing. It is my favorite Mac computer ever. As far as Apple products go, the MBA cannot touch the iPhone 4. As much as I love the MBA, the iPhone 4 is the most incredible Apple product ever. I have an iPad, and it has been in a drawer for five months (or however long ago it was released). I find it too big for the pocket and too small for acceptable usage (awkward in the hands, worthless to type on, lacks Flash). I have loved other iPhones, but the 4 just rules the day. I don't care about the reception issues either, as it's far better than any of my other iPhones.

Sorry to get off track there. To me, the MacBook Air, with 24" LED ACDs (soon to be 27" LED ACDs), and an iPhone 4 in the pocket covers absolutely EVERYTHING I need to do. I also enjoy the MobileMe service with AirPort Extreme Base Station for connectivity at and away from home. LOVE LOVE LOVE Apple products, and its stock is amazing too!

As I have said before many times.

As a graduate student that travels from one clinical rotation to another and is always on the go, I still regret not pulling the trigger on the MBA Rev C.

I went the opposite way and got a 15' macbook pro, which is a great computer; I just wish I felt more compelled to bring it with me more often. :(

If the new MBA gets a 4gs and longer battery, this thing is on ebay in two shakes of a lambs tale.

Yea disavowed I had my heart set on a 15 with anti glare.. Until school started and my backpack was heavy as heck....
And with the September 1st announcement I guess I'll just wait till September first and if they don't announce a new one, I'll buy it.. If they do, I'll buy it. Win win for me

I am thinking the very early September event means music only... then another October event for iPad 7", new MBAs, and new iTV. There are four months left before the end of the year... Apple can do a late October or early November event that focuses on all three of these products. Plus, it sounds like Apple is still working on TV deals. The iPad just needs to be ready before Christmas and they probably wouldn't want it released until six full months beyond the original iPad. The MBA isn't a priority at all... at least it doesn't seem to be. I hope this is wrong, but I think we're going to be able to buy before Christmas but that doesn't mean September introduction but rather later in the year for the MBA.

I'll put in my 2 cents.

I'm a 2nd year med student now and I got the Air rev c. last year before my first year started. It has worked great for me. I do have a Windows 7 PC for gaming. And yes, to the OP, Macbook Air owners are very rare. In my class of 270, I am the only one. I've actually never seen an Air outside of an Apple store, and I live in Philly.

Yes, the Macbook Air is great, but at this time, you either need to hold off on the purchase or get something else. It is old technology. You don't want to pay full amount for a computer that is really lagging behind.

I don't like the fact that everybody has a 13". It's almost like the " thing" to do.
But yea I'll get the ssd version or a 15 i5 with AG

But I basically just need it to sync iPhone and download music and use blackboard and Internet to do my math hw

The 13" is common because it is where everything starts. The MBA is a 13" as well. I looked at education pricing and you can get the 2.66 GHz MBP with more RAM and an SSD if you want for $30 less than the air.

haha I remember I got my first mac because I didn't want to be a conformist.

Now, if you don't want to be a conformist, I suggest you get a Dell Latitude or better yet a Dell Vostro. If a 15" MBP is too heavy, start working out.

But please, don't get a macbook air. You end up using youtube more than you'd expect.

Isn't it odd that they're doing the iPod event on the first? I guess Apple looks at it as a way to spur Mac sales and give away new iPod Touches... in the end, it's all about revenue.

Actually, no. The Back-To-School promotion only applies to last-gen iPods.

Advice is to get an Air on Ebay, use it for a while, if you don't like it sell it. Kinda like renting it for a while.

Speaking of watching YouTube on an Air:

Does April's sourcing-change or "silent upgrade" of putting in the faster Toshiba SSD, replacing the older slower Samsung SSD .... help the Air play YouTube smoothly? Or reduce overheating when doing it?

-.-'

Flash Video will use RAM, not so much your hard drive.

The only considerable factors would be the speed of your RAM, the FSB, and the processor speed. You really get jipped on the processor speed XD

Just to let you guys know, I didn't end up purchasing a MBA. Instead yesterday morning I ordered a 15" MBP with hi res AG!! I'm so excited. Ive never had a screen size bigger than 13", so the extra real estate will be nice. And I decided because all my books are on the internet my backpack will be light.... Plus I've been carrying an old white MacBook which weighs close to 5 lbs anyway.

But yea just wanted to share with you guys, if u wanted to know:apple::cool::apple:

Screen size≠screen real estate

It's all about resolution baby! I'm sickened by the number of people that are misled to buy 15" notebooks thinking they will be able to do more than they could with their 12" notebook. Little do they know, they very likely have equal resolutions and the decreased pixel-density also makes for a horrid image.

Poor poor fools. Oh well. With Apple, they always increase resolution with screen size. Owning a Mac is like a right of passage for those that are enlightened. That, or some dumb **** just wants a shiny Myspace box.

I don't understand what your saying? I stated that I got a high resolution screen. Meaning more real estate. And I'm not a **** Mac and myspace whore.

Hear hear, given the points you mentioned in you prior post, MrCheeto's response was a bit off tangent.

Getting back to topic, congrats on getting a new Mac.

If I was only allowed one Mac and size wasn't the issue it currently is I would choose a 15" machine. I actually had a 15" non-unibody model before I switched to a 13" unibody + iMac setup before leaving those at home and bringing a 10.1" Netbook Hackintosh travelling with me. :)

It is a trade-off weight v usability but sounds like you made the right choice for you. Enjoy.

You have to understand how it fits into your life. We can't tell you if it will.

I might have gotten a 13" MBP if I didn't want the air as much as I did. There's more flexibility to the MBP than the air. But you need a RunCore ssd Air to really enjoy it.

Because it weighs nothing, I tote it around a lot more and therefor I use it more. So buying it was a better move to me.

Well too, it really depends on what you're going to be doing with it as well. If you're only going to be typing word documents, preparing presentations, and the like, then the air is probably for you. If you're going to have to do any work with 3D modeling and imaging, then the MBA might not have enough nuts for you. Key word MIGHT NOT. I don't know, I've never owned a MBA, but I know that they're not as powerful as Apple's other machines. Just think of what you'll need it for, what you want, and go from there :)
