Connected to a Samsung thunderbolt widescreen display. Not seeing any issues.
What is interesting is I have been using it for 20 minutes, installing things, browsing etc and battery is still 100%. On my previous MBP within seconds off power you were down to 99%.
brand new machine and he perches it on the edge of a table!!!! are you mad?? 
oh and don't forget, when doing benchmark testing, your meant to get the same vaules as Apple did. if you don't then your machine is faulty and ask for a replacement lol

My last MacBook was a 2013 MBP-15, and this keyboard... wow!!
I was thinking that if I don't like this base MBA, I'd return it and wait for gen2, but so far, for just casual use, I'm completely sold already.

My Air feels faster than my previous 16" 8 core MBP. Incredible.
I too am very very interested in how fast Handbrake is on these machines. Currently I use an 8th gen i5 machine for some transcoding and it's reasonable but let's say 1-2h long 1080p footage takes about 4-5 hours to encode as HEVC. I can leave it overnight and it's done.
If I even attempt transcoding on my 2015 MBP... it's a joke. Fans go off like a jet engine and it moves like a snail.
Would expect these M1 chips to go nuts for transcoding. Perhaps the MBP would be better for the task since the cooling system means it can sustain higher CPU load for longer. But the MBA should still blaze it.
And in the future when Handbrake optimises their software to fully utilise the M1 chips... performance should be incredible.
On the external monitor, if you keep the laptop opened, does it act like a separate second monitor or is it duplicating the screen? That's the big question for me.
