Can anyone recall how in-store reservations for launch days typically work? I'll be travelling on launch day so was thinking I'll pick one up overseas.

When pre-orders go live on Friday July 8th, will in-store reservations go live? Or do I have to wait until the store opens on July 15th, order online then, and head in to pick up? Or is it some date in-between?

Thanks.

If they follow the schedule for the recently-released M2 MacBook Pro, only orders that ship to you will be available on preorder day, and for a week afterwards. Then on the morning of launch day stores will begin to show stock that can be bought in person or bought online for pickup.

When bought online for instore pickup on launch day July 15, what time does the inventory start to show online for M2 Macbook Air? I imagine the stock is very limited so would like to order asap on launch day online to ensure to be able to pick up

I am thinking the store will have 16gb ram / 1tb models in stock. Reason being is, when you look at a standard model it say unavailable for pick up. If you then do a custom config you can select ship to store. If you then select 16gb / 1tb it reverts back to unavailable.

This is a good find and sounds reasonable to me. Will note it only shows on the 10 cpu model and not the 8. Bummer for me, was hoping for a lower spec'd 16GB model to be carried in store, but I guess I'll be waiting until August for my pre-order!

In all colors except silver. And only with the dual USB 35W power adapter.

Bummer for me is no 24 GB models.

Apple only stocks certain models in their stores. It doesn’t appear that they are planning to stock any 24 GB models.
Apple stocks all models in stores ever since they went with non-upgradeable parts. However, they keep minimal stock on those specific models.

For example, I ordered a 1TB, 16GB M1 MBP months ago to be picked up at an Apple Store. A friend did the same with the 2TB drive option. They had them both to be picked-up within the hour.

Same goes for another friend who got an M1 MBA with certain configs.

When I ordered yesterday and still today - you can't order for store delivery at the store a few miles away. Is that true for all orders so far - can't get store delivery

How do you know which configurations are in stock and ready for pick up?

Do you just have to go through each configuration manually and check? If so, this sounds tedious.

Where I am (Japan) the Apple Stores do not have all the configurations. There is a way to figure out which configurations the stores have though. This video from last years MacBook Pro describes how it works.

What configurations do you think will be available Friday in-store?

There's the base, (and it used to be that, and the Max-high-end model, as I recall), but I'm thinking it will NOT be that these days. Any ideas?

Apple does not stock all configurations of all models in store.
Your mileage will vary. Ive found it depends on the stores stop. I am in NYC and see the Fifth Ave store tends to have many BTO configurations in stock, while the Upper East Side store does not have as many. This is more typical once a product is further past release date and there is more supply.

I recall Apple started this over the past 5-7 years by adding spec-ed out models and then gradually adding more mid-level specs.

Does anyone remember what time on Friday they will appear on the Apple Store website/app? I want to say it was between 6am-8am but don't remember exactly.

As expected, Apple stores here in Australia had the 10 Core 16gb 1tb available for pick up in store this morning. Only in Midnight and Space Grey however.

I have a Starlight 16gb / 512 coming from China but after seeing the unboxing videos I am picking up a midnight this morning. The starlight is too much like silver and looks washed out. Shame Apple didn't keep the gold from the m1 Air :(

Are you keeping your 14” MBPro Alicia? I have the 16” MBPro and M1 Air and I saw the new Airs available at Robina this morning and almost hit the button.
