This is my dilemma. I want 16MB and the M2 would be fine. But, if the M3 is a month or so away, I can wait and will compare the price and performance of the same config with the M2 and M3 processors.
I am also waiting. When I looked at ordered a M2/16GB air the wait time was almost a month. Better to wait and see what the M3 is than regret not waiting.

For what it's worth, if you don't *need* it now, I would wait. While it's true that it's expected that M2 > M3 upgrade for the MBA should be minimal / just a spec bump, you never know what might end up being released.

Point being, although it's true "you'll always be waiting if you wait", when we're likely this close to a new version, for me, it makes sense to wait. Discounts on existing models likely will remain (or if anything, increase) after the release of the M3 MBA, so don't think there's necessarily any lost savings of not buying now.

I agree with most of what you are saying except that M2 savings will remain. I don’t think this statement keeps in mind that what you maybe left after a m3 is announced maybe less desirable models.

However, if someone can wait 6-8 months to buy, you may see some good deals like open box or decent sales on new M3 MBA.

Be aware that if for whatever reason you're not too happy with the new m3 releases and decided to go M2, you may be stuck with the base model from apple or have to hunt down the proper spec you want as they dont generally keep the previous model around for built to order anymore

Both points are true, but in my mind, the discounted models today are already only the base models (8/256 and 8/512). You almost never get discounts on BTO models, again except occasionally at B&H Photo. So it doesn't really matter.

If you need a BTO configuration, then you generally have to buy from Apple anyways, and there's no discount. So even more so, if you're in this situation, you might as well wait until M3 released.

If you're ok with standard base configs, I still think you should wait when we're this close (again, assuming you can). Even with the discounts, I think these will still remain post-M3 launch.

To echo what some others have said, if you genuinely do need a new machine, then by all means buy one now. But if you can afford to wait, do so.

The M1 and M2 MacBook Airs are incredibly capable machines that will enjoy software updates and OS support for years to come, and when the M3 MacBook Air (or the rumoured "MacBook SE") comes around this year, you'll still have an incredibly fast and capable machine on your hands. (At a great price too, if you got a refurb machine.)

With the current discounts on the 15" MBA, I'm really tempted to get one. My personal 2017 iMac 27" is getting long in the tooth and I need something. . . I can wait a bit thought because work has given me a 13" M2 MBA. But it is my employers, so that gives me pause on somethings.

Yes, I agree with what you are saying; a higher end model with 512GB storage and 16GB of memory are harder to come by on sale, but if you know where to look and the time frame in which to look, you can get a good deal. You need to be a little bit dogged about it. However, you color options will be extremely limited; the 15" MBA with 512GB storage and 16GB, only was available in midnight blue at Best Buy for $1,288.99 (open box).

Well, that is usually the case, but not right now, as Best Buy has had the 15" with 16GB RAM and 1TB SDD on sale for $1,499 for almost a week now. They ran out of silver, but the other 3 colors remain in stock. This is an excellent deal, in my opinion.

True, I saw that come up on the MR front page last week. Some nice deals available for sure, and very rare to get it on the BTO models! For those who don't need the M3, this might make sense to get now, as limited supply could mean that once the M3-MBAs are released, these are no longer available. One of the few instances where getting now makes sense.
